Default Kenwood Video Units Ipod Update

For those of you that have the Kenwood Video units especially the DNX7100 and have the newer ipods the update is now available. It is a firmware update that will need to be downloaded onto you computer. You load that update into a flash drive and stick it into the USB port of the unit and you are ready to start. For most of you the USB port will be the plug where the Ipod adaptor is plugged into. If the unit was installed with some thought in mind you should not have to remove the unit to do this, for the rest of you have fun. Just a side note it is compatible with the Itouch, but it will not do video off the Itouch, this is an Apple issue not an Kenwood issue. Evey other manufacturer has the same issue with the Itouch. Once again this is a firmware update for the Ipod firmware only and will not have anything to do with mapping updates. Here is the link for the updates

Is this update required for the iPhone to work with it?

Please let me/us know. I was thinking about buying an iPhone this weekend. Isn't there a special cable/adapter needed to connect the iPod (and I assume iPhone) to the connections out of the 7100?

yeah, you need an adapter. either one of these will work:

just updated my head unit. iphone does work now with the kenwood, but it is a little flakey probably because my iphone software is not at the level kenwood recommends which i believe is 1.13 (won't know for sure since i won't be updating my iphone since its unlocked). album art isn't being displayed. also the current track information does not change or show the elapsed time. it shows the correct track info for the first song i play but when i skip to the next song, the info doesn't change. music plays fine though. guess i'll just continue to use my 2nd gen nano for the kenwood..

Hey Fiz, which one of those cables did you use for the iphone? From what I have read, you need the KCAIP500 cable to be able to use the iphone on the DNX7100. Does your cable charge the phone, display the artist etc, on the HU?

i'm using the P.I.E. ipod cable. the place i ordered stuff from only had that one in stock, not the kenwood one. i was told they both do the same thing. i have no issues with the iphone connected. it charges, it displays the album art on the dnx7100. i upgraded my iphone software to 1.1.1 recently, so that helped with the issues i initially saw after updating the dnx7100. also, when connecting the iphone, you get that message that the iphone is not compatible with the device it is connecting with and if you want to turn on "airplane mode." i just choose no and have yet to run into any problems. hope this helps..

The KCA-IP500 is NOT the correct cable for the DNX7100. You need the KCA-IP300V.

thanks for the info fix and duke. I believe the 500 cable is the older version, but I read a post on the dnx7100 thread that it was the correct cable for full functionality. the KCA-IP300V is pretty much the same cable as the one fix uses but has the video output as well. Has anyone been able to use videos from the iphone to the HU?

sickZ - you will not be able to play video off of the iphone as Duke stated in one of his earlier posts. i can confirm that the dnx7100 cannot play videos off of the iphone as you will not see this option.

Anyone know the answer to this?

I'm in the same boat... no access to the USB port w/o pulling the unit out of the dash.

The answer is no. The SD slot is dedicated only for Navigation updates.

It's possible your unit has the latest firmware (v. 1.0.9).

I have firmware version 1.0.4 and with my iPod Nano, the performance is very flaky. Sometimes it fails to authenticate, I usually can't view a list of songs, the name of the currently playing song doesn't update when the next song plays, etc.

PITA.

i updated the firmware on my ddx8019 and now the iPod menus are a little quirky...sometimes when i hit playlists it will go to songs, or when i select a folder it will not show the song names just blank spaces... i'm thinking it's my iPod. i've had it for a while, it probably needs to be updated itself

I believe when you download the Kenwood update, it warns you about the version you need on your iPod/iPhone/etc.
