Default upgrading sterio - gps concerns!

I will be purchasing a new head unit, and speakers shortly, Likely will be keeping the stock speakers in the doors and behind the head rests, I will be putting in an amp and a z enclosure with 2 10"s

My concern is that when i swap out the head unit will this disable the gps unit to transmit the audio (voice) to the speakers???

DO NOT have the bose system. Thanks!

thanks!

I hesitated offering any comments because I do no have direct experience with the question you ask (I don‘t have the Bose OEM system in my Performance model Z). But, you are not receiving any help on your thread. So, I thought I would provide some information. At least my reply (albeit somewhat lame) will bump your good question back to the top, and hopefully you get some additional responses.

Some basic information:

1) Xanavi (a division of Clarion) is the OEM supplier for the Z’s navigation system.

2) The Z’s navigation device is integrated with the OEM Bose audio system.

3) The Z’s navigation device issues sound (not sure if it is left/right or simply a single channel, but that isn’t significant) for voice guidance. The sound (voice guidance) goes to the OEM Bose H/U and is ultimately delivered to the car’s speakers for broadcast.

The simple way to get voice guidance from your OEM navigation (using a replacement H/U) is connecting the audio out to the AUX on the aftermarket H/U you install in your car. This will work, but this configuration only provides voice guidance while using the navigation device, and you cannot listen to your H/U’s radio or CD/DVD while navigating. That is probably not satisfactory.

A better way of connecting the OEM navigation device is using a mute wire (if that is available on the aftermarket H/U you install, and an option on the Nissan OEM navigation device). This way you can play the H/U’s radio or CD/DVD player, and have this sound interrupted automatically when the navigation device issues voice guidance.

But, even if there isn’t mute support on the OEM navigation device, you can still configure your CES to provide this feature. In this case you add another device that auto-switches between voice guidance and your H/U’s output. I have this in my car, and it works very well.

Hopefully there is someone on my350z.com who knows for sure and can provide the help you need and definitively answer your question.

Don’t know how I managed to miss that since you clearly state this in your initial message. I assumed that all cars with the OEM navigation device were always equipped with the Bose upgrade.

Anyway, the stuff I mention is still relevant. In fact, it’s better that you don’t have the OEM Bose system since that simplifies replacing the H/U.

You definitely can replace the H/U and still get voice guidance from your OEM navigation device.
