Here is a scam I see happening on Forums.

A new member (they usually have a join date that is very new) offers to provide a navigation update DVD disk for a very low price (far less than the SRP update price from the manufacturer). They often work in pairs (or more) where one makes the offer, and another posts a message saying they received the disk and “it works just great.”

The dumb ones work a Forum where all the team-members (the guy presenting the deal, and the accomplice saying what a great deal it is) have nearly the same join-date (which is very new).

The more accomplished thief joins the Forum well in advance (at least 3 months before making the offer) or solicits a longer-standing member as the shill, posts a few non-related messages, and then presents what appears to be a legitimate DVD buy at a bargain price.

Wow good to know. I use to make "back up" copies for several members on this forum a while back. Due to the expense and time consumption I decided to no longer offer them.

I did see a couple of new members making these disc's and offering them a couple of months ago. Was about to jump on board. Something told me not to, good thing. Again thanks for the info.

No… I’m old (probably really old compared to the members on my350z.com). So I’ve seen most of the scams over the last 50 years.

And you are correct, there was a scammer here about 2 or 3 months ago. I believe we chased him off before he was able to steal from our members.

Funny coincidence because I recently joined and I have PMed a few members asking if they need DVD MAP discs/software update discs. I'm legit and hopefully someone will be able to vouche for me soon.
