Noise when system powers down?

Noise when system powers down?
i have a 10" JL W7 with 500/1 amp.
when i power off the sound system via the head unit, about 2-4 seconds after the system shuts off, i hear like a "thump" or "pop" type noise coming from the sub.
any ideas what this could be? voice coils?

^hmmm. i'll check that... because it is only coming from the sub, not the mids. so i am wondering if its a problem with the sub and/or its corresponding amp, or that the noise is just at such a low frequency that it only comes through the sub.

sounds like a relay pop. It is caused by components in the system turning off before the amplifier completely shuts off. In most cases, the component will be an EQ or signal processor. Usually adding a little turn-off delay to the offending processor can fix the problem. This allows the processor to turn off after the amplifier, preventing the pop. Many components have this feature built in, and it is adjustable.

but not sure why you get this in the first place. We both have the same set up.
Are you using your oem headunit with an inline converter or something?

fyi i'm running a 4 gauge from the battery to a fuse block distributor that splits into another 4 gauge (for the sub amp) and a 8 gauge (for mids amp)
