Default Speaker sizes

Hey guys,
I searched but couldn't find and thought this would be a sticky somewhere.
But what are the OEM speaker sizes/types?

Looking to do a full speaker upgrade along with a new NAV/HU. Nothing wild and expensive, just some mainstream affordable but quality speakers. Something like Pioneer D-Series.
But I can't find the size of all speakers.

I saw the discussion on even replacing the rear speakers... I'm torn. Oh well.

Thanks! And sorry for the noob Q.

*Edit - This is for an 07 Enthusiast: 6 speakers, no sub. I'd love to put in a 10'' but don't want to lose my trunk space. Are there any good speakers for the cabin that offer adequate bass?

Anyway, OEM non-Bose speaker sizes:
Tweeters, i believe they are 3/4" in the sail panels
Front woofers, 6.5" in the doors
Rear speakers, 6.5" behind headrests

There is a TON of info in this sub-forum. Just poke around and you will see what is a common install around these parts. It doesn't mean you have to do what everyone else is doing, but to get an idea of what might sound best. picking speakers is a very personal subject. What I think sounds NICE you may think sounds like POO POO!!!! I recommend you audition as many component sets as possible. Find out what kind of sound you like.

As for adding some low end grunt without losing ANY hatch space:
The Wicked CAS glove box enclosure goes where the OEM Bose sub would go and fits a 10" sub. This is the ONLY way I would recommend putting a sub in this location.
There is a thread in here where someone installed the Elemental Designs 7" subwoofers in the OEM rear speaker locations. There are other 6.5"-7" subwoofers that could be tried here, but these locations would need to be sealed up and provide a rough 'apparent'* volume of around .25-.50 cubic foot of volume depending on the specific speaker specs to sound proper.

*I say 'apparent' volume because you could get away with a slightly smaller enclosure volume if you stuff or AP vent the enclosure.

Thanks!

I think I'll go with some these MB Quart Reference for the front (6.5'' with .75'' components):
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...t+RVF+216.html

And these 6.5'' mid-bass MBQ Reference for the rear:
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...t+RCE+164.html

Should sound okay. Nice quality, good balance, good price, powered by standard 200w HU (Kenwood or Pioneer NAV).

Wyatt, if you are going to install the front ones you may want to check the mounting depth, they may not clear the windows. I read that the max depth for the doors is 2.5" if you dont want to use spacers. These are 2.65. But good find, they may just fit.

AH! Crap! I never would have thought about that. Thanks... I will look into that element now as well.

Also, since a 200w head unit may not properly power speakers like this, what kind of amp do I need (not brand) - I assume 300w is more than enough (most of these speakers say max watt around 150-200), but how many channels? Just 2 components + tweaters and 2 mid-bass behind the seat. Extra channel for every speaker? So lost..

What is the difference between top mount and bottom mount depths? I see a good selection under 2.5'' for top mount, but not bottom mount..

Don't ever look at "max power handling" It is a useless statistic when planning a system. Look at RMS power handling of speakers and RMS rating of amplifiers. Match them as best you can. For that components set, look for a 2 channel amp that puts out as close to 140x2 RMS as possible. If you get a 100x2 RMS amp it won't be the end of the world and it will still be loud enough.

EDIT:
To run all the speakers (front comps and rear mid bass) get a 4 channel amp....i forgot you are installing those speakers in the rear. Since the rears only need 60 RMS you will just have to keep the gains down a bit.

+1 on the RMS rating. What speakers/amp combo did you decide on?

Im looking for a few. Not many 6.5'' components have .75'' tweeters, and even fewer are less than 2.5'' deep.

Front components:

JL Audio:
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...VR650-CSi.html
60RMS

MB Quart, not quite shallow enough maybe:
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...t+RVF+216.html
RMS 70-140?

What else are you guys using?

Rear mid-bass:
MB Quart:
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...t+RCE+164.html
Only 60RMS, but $50!!!

MTX:
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...io+TXC6.0.html
150RMS

Beyma:
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...a+PRO+6MI.html
125 RMS

Haven't heard of MTX or Beyma. I'd like the brand of speakers to match front and back (not sure why) but I guess that wont happen.

Now looking for 4x125@4 amp...

Alpine:
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...PDX-4.150.html
150x4@4

Alpine:
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...PDX-4.100.html
100x4@4

Rockford:
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...er+T600-4.html
100x4@4

Eclipse:
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...se+XA4000.html
125x4@4

Power Acoustik:
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...PDX-4.100.html
150x4@4
CHEAP!!! Is this one just as good??

Well the tweets (no matter what size) are most likely not going to fit behind the sail panel like the OE tweet is. So don't go by tweet size, get a 1" if that's what your preferred set comes with. You will find a way to mount it.

As for the depth, if you MUST mount in the OE door location, then for $20 or less you can buy or make 3/4 or 1" spacers. This is essentially a plastic or MDF ring that mounts to the door, then you mount the speaker to that ring. It adds mounting depth.

How about a set of CDT Audio classics in the front:
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=4596

And for the rear woofers:
CDT M6

Maybe I'll get the 60RMS JL fronts, the MB Quart 60RMS midbass rears, and just a 60x4@4 amp. That'd save a few bucks, all work well together, and I hate loud music so I'm not sure I "need" the extra power (if that's even what more watts does).

What's your budget for speakers and amp? what type of music do you listen to? Maybe I'll see if I can put together something in your budget range for you.

Looking at that MBQ midbass you picked out, it is for use as an add on to a component set, so in all reality if that's what you really wanted you would only need a 2 channel amp to run the whole show. Of course then you lose the adjustability of the rears, so never mind, you will still want a 4-channel to run fronts and rears separately.

Well I'm not a music-junkie but I do appreciate clean quality. If I had a car like the 335i with it's Logic 7, or an IS350 with whatever they have, I wouldn't upgrade. Those are well rounded clean systems. My FX35 had an okay system too.

I listen to pretty much all music. I don't like HEAVY bass, but I do listen to a little rap that needs some. Some hip hop, alternative, etc.. Whatever is new, basically. Anything but HARD ROCK and Country pretty much.

Budget - well, as cheap as possible. But if a system for a little more is a lot better, I'd do it right the first time. Just want to make sure it's all a good value. So no budget - but it should be under $600-700 I think (pre-labor)? And I don't turn the music up very loud. Pretty low/average. And there will be a NAV/Hu 200w piece if that changes anything.
Thanks so much.

OK, as cheap as possible, providing good clean sound (trying to keep it neutral timbre), not too loud, installed in stock locations.

Front Components:
Elemental Designs eDi 6000s v.2 (I've read these sets are rebadged CDT)
http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/pro...products_id=49

Rear Subwoofers:
Elemental Designs 7Kv.2 dual 4ohms each
http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/pro...products_id=33

Amplifier:
Elemental Designs NINe.4
http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/pro...products_id=46
run front comps at 4ohms
run rear subs at 2ohms

Sound Damping:
Elemental Designs eDead v1² - 30 sf

1" speaker spacers
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Nissa...spagenameZWDVW

Looking around $567 total for everything listed. Add another ~$50 for wiring/fuses/misc. I believe Bing is a Elemental Designs dealer and might be able to get you some good pricing.
