Default 8'' Sub Enclosures?

Hey guys,
Thinking of going with an 8'' in the back and just putting the amplifier in the stock 10'' spot. Anybody make pre-fit enclosures? Or if you have custom, post up?

Thanks!!

Look in the marketplace audio section and look up "zenclosures". He can make anything you would like.

Those looked pretty good, but pricey.

What about dual 6.5'' woofers replacing the standard speakers in the back? With 6.5'' components up front, a good amp, and the 10'' sub box just emptied...

So you'd rather go with components up front and a 10'' in back... Ugh the search continues.

yeah, a good set of components up front is all you need. A lot of members on here cut out the rear speakers completely..but i like to keep a rear fill. Any coaxial should do it.

Do you have coaxials in back? I don't think I'll add those...

I'm thinking just new front components, a 10'' in the bose spot (free-air) even though it's not the best location, and a good amp...
i might keep the stock rear speakers on low connected the HU for a little fill.

in your original post, i thought you meant you are putting your amp where the stock sub is suppose to be at and have a 10" sub and enclosure in the trunk. I don't think you will get good sound from the stock bose sub location.

and yes, i use a rear fill.

I was going to... But $300 for a box is too much. I'm not an audiophile so I doubt I will notice the difference. I can use the trunk space, too...

I think I am now going with Infinity Kappa series for the speakers - component 6.5'' in front, coaxials 6.5'' in the rear, component 10'' woofer in stock location. This woofer is also "free air", but I will try to dynomat all speaker locations a little anyway. Powered by Directed Audio amplifier. Whole setup should be under $600. I never have the bass turned up anyway, just need a little - - so no thumping or rattling for me.

Woofer: 350 RMS @ 2ohm

Components: 90 RMS @ 2

Coaxials: 75 RMS @ 2

Amplifier: 125 x 4 + 400 @ 2

Actually, his original post stated " placing an 8 sub in the hatch and mounting the amp in the OEM sub area driver side. This thread is going in all directions...

I know the general consensus is to disconnect the rear speakers, but has anyone here tried their current systems with and without rears? I've been tempted to hook mine up just to satisfy my curiosity.

Try it! Remember, do what sounds best to YOUR EARS. Where have I heard that before?

Personally, I run a pair of coaxials for rear fill. Now, that being said, let me qualify that by saying they are:

1) Freq. response limited. IOW, I have the highest-highs and lowest-lows to them crossed-over to basically limit them to an almost mid-range response.

2) Volume limited. I have the gains on the amp channels turned down quite a bit relative to the front and sub-bass channels.

To my ears, a system just never sounds *quite* right without a bit of rear fill. But, then again, some people like a "studio" sound to their music whereas I prefer a "live venue/concert" sound and I've never been to a live performance of music whether it was ZZ Top outdoors, Motley Crue indoors or the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House (and yes, I've been to all three.. lol) where there wasn't at least some degree of reflected sound from behind. Neither way is more correct than the other, simply personal preference.

Hahah... For low rear fill, it might not be bad to just have the stock speakers connected to the HU and everything else off the amp.
But matching coaxials for the Infiniti Kappa series are only $80, so I might add those in if the Directed Audio amp can support it all properly.

$135 for a box - - you win!! That is nice.
I am not sure I want that box though - I need some trunk space... And I'd prefer 8'' but I will keep looking. I really liked the Wicked CAS corner mount...

That might work okay - still provides some bass, gives the 10'' a little more room to bounce from the window, and good price. Now I think I'll throw the amp in the stock sub spot. :

Not BAD, but I wish it was on it's side...
