JL W7 in the back of my Z ??
Ok, here is my setup in my 2003 Z. I am running the Pioneer D3 head unit with my stock Bose system as of now. I am looking to do either an 8" or 10" W7 but have a few questions. I am a total n00b when it comes to car audio, so bear with me.
1. Which would be a better application for overall sound quality, 8" or 10" ?
2. Will either of those fit where my stock Bose sub is right now behind the drivers seat?
3. If questions #2 is yes, would it still be better for sound to put it in some sort of enclosure in the rear of the car ?
4. If #3 is yes, is there a Zenclosure that will fit a W7 in it under the rear strut brace ?
thanks in advance for your help

because I have heard the W7's and have listened to a few other subs, and I like the way the W7 sounds the best. I have listened to the Alpine stuff, Rockford Fosgate, etc. Feel free to suggest something else, I am always open to ideas. I want something in the $400-600 range.

2) FI Q 10"
3) Resonant Engineering SE 10
all better value for performance than a w7.. i wouldn't take a JL Sub if you were giving it to me for free

2. it is NOT suggested to put a sub where the stock bose sub is unless you use the wicked cas box.
3. see #2
4. I believe Zenclosures' understrut box will house a 10w7.
There are a lot of subwoofer options. of course it all comes down to YOUR choice because it is YOUR money and YOUR car.

Let me pose one other question. If I was trying to choose something that I could order through Crutchfield (ordering head unit on my Sony Financial card), would the JL be my best bet ?

JL has high mark up's for their performance..
you are better off buying a $250 Image Dynamics IDQ v3 than buying a w7 for $500 from Crutchfield

It's not so much 'hatin' as it is realizing that there are better values out there, especially if paying retail for JL equipment. There are independent brands out there that may make (arguably) a better product for less money. That is all.

I have owned and LOVED the Boston G510 sub. you can find them cheaper than through Crutchfield, but this is the one I had:

SQ to the extent that I just want to add it on to my head unit purchase. The sub is not a necessity right now, I was just trying to a. do a little research and b. get opinions on the subs.
Also, for those recommending other subs, can you provide me some links so that I can see the specs/looks and everything on the ones you are recommending ?

I have 10W7 in the trunk. I made my own corner enclosure for it

I bought mine off ebay brand new for about 300. The sub is fantastic, if you have heard it and like it then go for it.
I would advise against using the stock bose location. At least buy a Zenclosure and a proper amp to run it.
