regarding the V1.
Definately worth the $$$. $400 on the Valentine website. I recommend the stealth install it's sweet. Do a search and there are awesome step by step instructions. Look for "drivesolo's" post.
For settings. If I'm out around town I use full logic to avoid a lot of false alarms. You may want to use all alerts on the highway where any signal is more likely to be a real threat. Full logic mode works awesome.

Yeah I use full autologic, else the thing would be going off all the time around here. And most police don't use X anymore anyway (I think it only filters X band).
The detector has some really sophisticated filtering algorithms to reject false signals, and it works very well.
Everyone pays the same amount. Go to the Valentine1 website and you'll know the answer. :-)

I use the same. I rarely get false readings and I am in a fairly big city. Congrats man, you will love your V1. My wife thought I was crazy for getting it, but now she tries to use it all the time.

Well so far I have it in the window of my Jeep. I haven't run my Z very hard at all beleive it or not. I live in Fort Worth, TX and there isn't anywhere open here. It's very populated, something like 900,000 ppl, not including Dallas. I haven't decided if I want to hard wire or not. I'm one of those guys with very little mechanical ability. I like the stealth mode thing. I haven't purchased it yet. So I will have to have somebody do the hard wire job if I decide to. Yesterday I ran "All Alert" mode and it was going off constantly through a heavy traffic mall area. Today I ran "Advanced Logic" mode, a little less noisy. It went off and was detecting behind me. I couldn't see anything almost the whole way to work and there are always plenty of cars on the road. I never figured out where it was coming from.
Total cost $406 w/shipping. Thanks guys.

Trust me. You can do the install yourself. I had never done much work like this either, but I have started on my Z. You can PM if you have any questions about it or post them on here. It is VERY easy to do. You can spend the money you save on something else.

Well my new V1 radar (purchased 8/19/04) has POP mode... its a new flash they did for 1.8 versions does anyone have POP mode?? its soppose to know find that radar cops keep bragging about no radar detector finding it.
To find out if you v1 has this software installed:
How to identify V1s upgraded to two-band POP
V1 powers up with test sequence of warning lights and
sounds. At the conclusion of the test, just before the
mode indicator appears in the Bogey Counter, you will
see a sequence of 'P...o...P' on V1s with two-band
POP coverage.

Re: V1 install
Hey Mike.....thanks for the bracket I bought from you.....it's PERFECT & secure. One question though. Am I able to detach the black plastic box wire cover above the mirror to run my V1 wires in it from the top for a stealth look? Was afraid that if I tried removing it. I would not be able to put the plastic cover back.

Mike's mount is great. I really like it. Hardwiring the V1 to the powered mirror is also a piece of cake.
See this thread for help on hardwiring the V1 to the power mirror:
