How to hardwire Valentine 1 to power mirror
Recently, I purchased Mike Peronek's (member name: mike3348), under mirror V1 mount.
I really like this mount and finally decided to hardwire the Valentine V1 to the power connector of the mirror.
This project took very little time, about 30 minutes or so and was pretty easy.
I based my project on this thread from Grutter about hardwiring an Passport 8500. Read this thread to get generic info about hardwiring to the mirror.
Wiring Key:
Mirror wires
black = ground
black with red stripe = +12
Valentine 1 straight black cord
green = ground
red = +12
From Grutter, about the Passport 8500:

I've been asked for more "detailed" information on doing this wiring from several members, so here is a little more detail that will hopefully help someone out when wiring their radar detector to the mirror wiring:
1. Don't take your mirror apart, just unplug the connector from the back of the mirror.
2. Their is a little black plastic cover that is easily removed that hides the wires from the headliner to the mirror bracket. The wires you need are under that cover. Remove the cover.
3. Slide the thin plastic tubing back that shrouds the three wires that were previosly covered by the black plastic cover.
4. Now you should have access to the wires. One is black (ground), one is black with red tracer, one is black with orange tracer. You need black and black with red tracer for this job.
5. I didn't cut the wires, just skinned the insulation off of the black and black with red tracer so I had a section about 3/16" with no insulation on it.
6. Look at the RJ11 connector diagram I posted. I can't tell you what colors your phone connector will have, and they will be reversed from end to end. Cut the cable the length you need.
The center two conductors are the ones needed for power & ground. Strip the ends of these conductors.
7. Looking at the drawing I posted, determine which color in the phone connector is ground, and which one is power. Carefully wrap the stripped end of the phone wire around the skinned places in the mirror wiring.
8. Be careful that they don't touch, plug in your Passport, and turn on the ignition. It should power the passport. IF not, switch the two wires. It won't hurt the Passport if they are backwards for testing.
9. When you are satisfied that it is wired correctly, solder the connection. I used a small pencil soldering iron. Wrap a small piece of electrical tape over each connection.
10. Pull the plastic tubing back down over the wires, plug mirror connector back in, replace plastic cover (pull sections apart for tight fit). You're done.

I have a very old V-1 (circa 1993) and the GREEN wire is the hot wire and the RED is the ground. I know this for a fact since It was that way in my Stealth and I just took it out of there and installed it into my new ride (05 AWD Dodge Magnum R/T).
Come to think of it, I think my newer V-1 in the Z is the same way. Let me get the pic of it........
Yep. Same way, Green hot, red ground.

You should use the hardware provided with the V1 to hardware it. Cutting the cord is not the best way. Ever since 1999, Valentine 1 put a 1uF capacitor inside Inside the direct-Wire Power Adapter and the lighter plug adapter. Some people experienced Laser alert at WOT (mostly on turbo'd cars), and the capacitor solved this. If you get many false laser alerts at WOT, you can always install a 1uF capacitor from radio shack for $1.
