Default Carputer cubby monitor options for 06,07,and 08's

So after alot of reading and searching through threads I found that alot of the info I found was relatively old so I'll go ahead and compile on here to hopefully get some feedback and inform those that don't feel like reading through a whole bunch of posts.

Option 1:complete stock nav instrument panel setup:
P/N's:
68260-cf47A "Instrument panel - Instrument panel components - Center panel - W/navigation sys W/navigation sys 2006 - 2008" Price: $189.02
28395-cf405 - "Electrical - Navigation system components - Switch assy Switch assy 2006 - 2008" Price: $259.50
68499-cf40A-"Instrument panel - Instrument panel components - Center panel - Finisher From 11/06 2007 - 2008" Price: $47.15
Total Price: $495.67 (priced out on trade motion)

Related threads:
https://my350z.com/forum/audio-builds/234268-from-this-to-this.html

Pros:
-IMO the most OEM looking option
Cons:
-you do end up paying $260 bucks for a hole cover with switches that you wont use unless you go the route I'll cover a little bit further down.

Option 2 Motorized nav lid on stock panel, In this option you just trade out the cubby/cubby door assembly for the motorized cubby door assembly from courtesy nissan:http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchan...de=68250-Z3306

P/N's:
68250-Z3306 Price: $279.96 (Price from Courtesy)
68410-CD000-"Instrument panel - Instrument panel components - Center panel - Finisher Finisher 2003" Price: $13.37 (Price from trade motion)
Total Price minus circuitry you might want: $293.33

Pros:
-You can make it look pretty OEM.
-It is a motorized cubby door which is pretty nice (Courtesy has on their site that it doesn't come with motor or wiring which I belive is a typo, you might want to double check with them).
-Has the potential to be really cool.
Cons:
-It doesn't fit completely along the sides of the cubby (as shown in the pictures in the related threads) so fabrication of a custom rubber seal might do the trick.
-I'm not 100% sure that the finisher listed in the parts fits, seeing as it is made for the 2003 nav cubby.
-The guy on here that used to make the circuits that made it possible to open and close along with the ignition hasn't been heard from in a long while (sn: BPL, circuit: https://my350z.com/forum/attachment....0&d=1148008148) so you would have to get something done unless you just want to put it to a switch and open and close with a button (I believe you can get it to open by providing 12V and close by reversing the current).

Option 3 Modifying an 03 nav cubby to fit:
P/N's:
68250-CD01A- "Instrument panel - Instrument panel components - Lid - W/o navigation sys W/ navigation sys 2003" Price $82.71 (Price from trade motion)
68410-CD000-"Instrument panel - Instrument panel components - Center panel - Finisher Finisher 2003" Price: $13.37 (Price from trade motion)
Total Price: $96.08

Pros:
-Cheap and you can probably pick one of these up in the classifieds section.
Cons:
-It DOES NOT fit and will require ALOT of modification.
-The dash changed quite a bit from 2003 to 2006+ so once you get it to fit it still won't look 100%.
-Color is also different.
-Door will not be able to close once you have finshed putting everything in.

Option 4 Place 7" monitor in the location of radio.
Parts:
Pick up a double din kit from your local best buy/ ciruit city for about 50 bucks or buy one online for less than 30 bucks

Pros:
-Cheap and readily accesible
-Can look very OEM see the link.
-Cons:
-Will get rid of radio so you will have to buy an amp

Related links:
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show...plus-pics.html

Option 5 Just buy an Avic/ or some DVD/GPS double din unit and save yourself the headache.
Con: IMO it looks really out of place, as in not OEM, but thats just me.

On a side note I've been looking at this for a while and wanted to keep the steering wheel controls with a carputer. There are 2 solutions:
(1)https://my350z.com/forum/audio-and-video/342385-carputer-steering-wheel-interface.html
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/inpu...tml#post197860
http://g35driver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19881
The above show how to connect the leads from the steering wheel to your pc game port and assign specific voltages to certain key strokes (ie. Ctrl+P to play in WMP).
(2)Also you could get a "PAC AAI-NIS2" +"PAC SWI-X" and all of the controls on the steering wheel will send out an ir signal. Then you can make something like this: http://www.instructables.com/id/PC-remote-control/ to receive the ir signal. Then use a program like Girder http://www.promixis.com/products.php?section=girder to interpret each signal into a specific command. My though as I mentioned above in option 1, is to wire the stock nav buttons to buttons on a spare remote control and then use Girder + the ir receiver to assign certain commands to the nav buttons. The catch is, if it is anything like the steering wheel controls, as in each button just changes the resistance in certain leads/ in turn changing the voltage, then you wont be able to wire it to the buttons on a remote control since each button on the nav controls aren't shorting 2 leads. I will have to look at the wiring diagrams in the maintenance manuals to see which is the case.

*sigh* so finally after writing all of that I can get to the questions:
1: Is there anyone still around that makes the circuits to operate the motorized cubbies?
2: Does anyone know if the 2003 nav panel finisher (P/N: 68410-CD000) will indeed fit the motorized cubby?
3: What solutions have you guys come up with for the gap in the sides between the motorized cubby and the panel?

Thanks in advance guys

P.S. here is the disclaimer: double and triple check all of the part numbers to make sure they are in deed what you want and will fit your car.
and a HUGE thanks to all of those who contributed in the other threads.

Wow. GREAT compilation of information.. I wanted to put a screen in the cubby of my '07 and I think i spent several hours searching through all of this myself.. its good that someone put it all together. I unfortunately do not have any answers, as I took the easy way out (option 5).

Thanks for the info. In a way im bummed out by it though, because it confirms my fears, there will be no way to make a nice and simple OEM-looking 7" scrren housing like the 03-05's.

Cant there be someone that fabs a freakin thing? They might make some $$!

any handy-men out there?

LOL thanks guys, evolved326 I have seen plenty of fabbed center panels that fit 7,8, I think even 10in monitors vertically. Problem is your going to have to get an auto body shop to Fiberglass it= $$$. Personally I did all of the searching because I don't want to just start buying stuff and end up spending twice the amount that I should have (learned that lesson with the exhaust... actually i'm still spending money on the exhaust, lol). You could also just take apart the cubby that comes stock, dremel the @#$ out of it and place a monitor there, however the door wont close and IMO it wont look too nice.

Here is how I would tackle it:

I'd go with the above option MINUS the 28395-cf405 electrical components. That would shave you $260 from your budget.

I'd pop out the buttons or whatever comes with it so i'm left with just the cover w/ button holes etc (haven't seen the part in person so not sure if this will work).

A decent shop should be able to smooth it out for you so you're left with a smooth cover piece that (hopefully) is a good color match. It also shouldn't cost too much to get that done.

Personally, I'd try to mount either a CD/DVD drive, or this badboy (if it fits) in that spot so you have some sort of tactile volume control besides the steering wheel controls:

Has anyone ever tried to fit the entire console (not just the cubby) from an '03 into an '06+? Ive wondered about that, but never found a thread about it.

I was talking with a friend of mine and we think we could put together a circuit that will open and close the motorized cubby via ignition plus have a switch. We might also do a circuit that will make use of the navigation buttons with a computer. Just wondering if there is any interest... I might start a thread later.

I have an 06. For my carputer what i did was buy the 03 nav cubby, i believe i had purchased from mynismo.com(was a year ago). 'however the 03 lid color is gray and our whole interiors are a differenct black surface. So it looked pretty bad not only cause of the color but because the size of the lids are differnt as well. the 03 is considerably smaller. So i got out my dremel, cut off the front skin on my 06 lid and attached em to the metal hinges of the 03 cubby. This is probably the toughest part of the whole carputer project. This hybrid cubby was installed, you have to align the screws propoerly because teh of teh size difference. anyway finished project ends up looking pretty decent. the door opens and closes when i push it (took a lot of work to align that as well). Havent met anyone that thinks the lid isnt OEM. Put a xenarc in it even though farenheit is a lot easier to install in it. In my opinion when i was doing my research, the motorized lid looked sexy to me too cause supposedly it was the correct size for the 06 plus Zs. however the amount of rigging needed to get that function out of it was not worth it to me.

First, purchase this '06-'08 Navigation Bezel:

http://www.conceptzperformance.com/C...265.190.243.76

Second, buy some plastic glue to secure the monitor to the back of the bezel. When I did mine I just secured it on the sides and nothing else.

Third, find an '06-'08 Navigation Control Unit. You can buy it from the dealer but it is quite expensive. Local salvage yard is probably a better bet.

Here is the finished product:

Just curious, what are you going to power the monitor with?

The nav control unit is all you need. Take a look at Kieran@DrivenDynamics carputer setup to get a visual on what is missing from my pics.

https://my350z.com/forum/audio-build...installed.html

I never found a website to buy it from. My local dealer quoted me $475 I think, but you can get it from a salvage yard much cheaper if you call enough places. Obviously it doesnt need to work, so if you get lucky and find one that is inoperable you should save even more. Just make sure you dont buy a '03-'05 nav unit (has the control **** on the right of the unit). It will not fit.

well seeing as this thread is back to life I'll fill those in that care to know... I decided to do option 3 and 4 combined. I bought an old 05 cubby and dash kit so I decided to do a double screen setup using RR. WOW it took a whole lot of effort to get double touch screen to work with roadrunner but worth the effort. If your interested in the details for the whole RR setup pm me or post. Right now I have all the parts laid out in my living room, it might be a while until I install but when I do ill post some pics...
