Any comments on tweeter fitment? I am more interested in a set up where tweeters will fit inside the stock location.

most reasonably sized tweeters will fit in the stock location, but you will have to do some minor cutting.

What size spacer would I need to fit Focal 165 K2Ps? Their mounting depth is 3.03" and per some threads on here, people said that max mounting depth with spacers is 2.5"... can someone confirm this?

I spoke with the guy from zenclosures (he is selling spacers for stock fitment) and he said max depth is 2.5" WITH a spacer so check out the mounting depth on those speakers and you'll have your answer

I disagree a LITTLE with this... when you take the door apart you will see why. There is plenty of room behind the speaker as far as depth, but the corner of the window gets in the way.. I think the Magnet DIAMETER as as much to do with the speaker fitting as the DEPTH. For example.. they have fit eD edi6500 speakers that have high depth, but were able to fit past the window.

That's the purpose for this thread..its not quite as easy as just looking at the mounting depth.

I installed Hertz HSK 165 in my front doors! Pain in the but! Had to use a 1.5" spacer to clear the window! Clears window by 1/16" I installed audiobahn 6" pro mid bass drivers in the rear. I The magnets on the six inch speakers are bigger than the polk MM 10's I use for subs!

Here is a pdf with the Polk Audio DB6501 dimensions. Anyone able to look at this pdf and say if they will fit in a 07 with a spacer? Not sure about the tweeter dimensions.....http://www.polkaudio.com/downloads/d...inedrawing.pdf

Are you able to get the stock speaker grill back on? Have you checked if there i any rubbing? I didn't realize you could fit a 1.5" spacer behind the stock grill..

My first install in the Z I used the factory mounts and cut out the driver. These supported using my Boston Acoustics Pro 6.5's. It was a quick, simple and cheap way to go but does not address the half blocked grill.

Now I use Nazar's door pods.

Not sure, but don't worry about rear fill.. just spend more money on better front comps

I'm new to all of this but it seems like that would sound totally weird having the only real sound coming from by my feet.

It DOES sound weird at first, but when you add a HU, adjust the fade so that the balance is all to the front, and you wont notice the difference. Itll actually sound better.

ohfourzee, I think you've swayed me to your view. I am now leaning towards getting some Hertz HSK165's for the front and then possibly getting Hertz HCX165's for the back down the road once I have more $$$. I am now looking for an amp to power the hertz. I wanted to get a JL amp but they are out of my price range. Would a Kicker 08ZX650.4 be fine? I noticed HSK's go to 22Hz and that amp only goes to 20Hz would that be a problem?

I didnt even bother with the rears, at all, and I wont bother with them, ever. I think its worthless because after installing my Pioneer F700, while I still had the stock speakers, I set the balance on the fader all the way to the front, and it actually sounded better. So by that, I will not even bother with the rears.
Im in the process of installing the 620Z and a JL 300/2. The crossovers are so dam big, I am moving it from one location to the next on the door to find a spot that fits. I know right above the speaker fits, and way below where the red marker light is fits as well.

I never understood why people install crossovers in the doors? Is there any benefit to this? I would be afraid that water would get into the door.

Edit, post install: I cut the stock grill (stock sound blocker) out and covered the frame in speaker cloth. And they fit over the Polk SR6500's, even in the "comp-axial" mode with the tweet mounted on the woofer. Also, to get the stock spacer to work, you need to do a tiny bit of shaving along the inside edge, as the baskets of the Polk speakers are fairly wide.
Got any pics of your Polk SR6500 setup? How do you like the sound? Thanks!
