I'm thinkin AVIC-D3. Good choice or should I look at something else instead?

I love my Avic D3! It is by far the best value. but if you are willing to spend more money, there are even better units I hear.

I just put in the Kenwood DNX8120, which is quite a bit more than the D3, but it is absolutely awesome. Garmin nav, Parrot Bluetooth, etc.

Is it true that on the D3 you can't listen to cd's while using the nav?

I think the D3 stores maps in memory, so you can listen to MP3s while using the nav.

i dont think so cause its dvd navigation(meaning you have to insert a dvd disc). I might be mistaken though. You need a unit that either has the navigation built into a hard drive or has dual disc inserts(1 for dvds and 1 more cds). I know the Pioneer Avic Z1 and Z2 has it built into a hard drive plus you can store music also.

Ya that's what I thought. I would much rather spend a little more and get the Z1 or Z2 then. (unless you don't need to listen to music while using the nav)

You can load your route using the nav disc, then the unit stores it in the memory so you can take it out listen to CD's, however you cannot zoom all the way in and you are limited on the options that are available without having the nav disc in. If you want a Nav deck for a similar price I think the Kenwood 5120 is better, especially the nav portion, and the 8120 is IMO the best unit out there right now. It has everything built in and has a larger screen than the D3. Right now Kenwood makes the best indash nav units.
