Camera Mount in the 350Z
Hey all, first off I already searched and didnt find anything...
Has anyone found or built a video camera mount for the interior of the 350Z yet?
If so, could you please take pic or 2 and post them?
I am trying to figure out where the best place would be to mount my new MiniDV camcorder (super small and light, I LOVE it)
I was doing some initial research today and having a hard time being able to see the full interior properly (probably a wide angle lens will help when i get it). Im thinking so far, that a small plate spot welded to the frame in the rear hatch area, slight to the left of the passenger seat and some assembly that could attach to the plate so it could be removed for daily driving would work best, and could be turned to look out the passenger window for nights at the dragstrip too this way.
Anyways, please post pics or links to other threads if they do happen to exist and i was just looking in teh wrong places. Thanks.

I'm planning to put one in a roadster but for obvious reason don't have pic for it. There are more reason to put it on roadster too since visibility is cut down when the top is up. I'm planning to mount a small CCD camera (available for $100) and mount it on the structure of convertible top. And pull the wiring and connect it to the in-dash DVD player.
Hope that give you an idea.

Most of my Porsche buddies have their cameras mounted on their rollcages. So, I was thinking of coming up with something to mount it to the rear shock tower brace since it's already there. I'd have to look, but I think a position that far back would give an excellent view to the sides (so you can see the apex BEFORE the car rolls over it).
Someday when I get a hold of some aluminum....

A buddy of mine made a nice one that attaches to the headrest pegs. I don't know the specs but it's basically just an aluminum rod he drilled holes in, put brackets on and attached to the pegs. There's a place on the end of it to mount the camera. It's very stable. With a little time at the drawing board it shouldn't be difficult to figure out. I'm currently just securing mine to the passenger seat with bungee cord.

Lowfuel made this mount
link to camera mount thread
I followed his lead and got some great footage of Gingerman raceway. The only problem I ran into on the track was wind noise. I still haven't figured out how to get rid of it.

I've got a camera mount
I built a camera mount based on Lowfuel's design a while back (props to Lowfuel and his innovative thinking). I've been using it in a lot of autocrosses and it works out great.
The camera mount is pretty much the same thing as LowFuel's. The big difference between them is that the one that I built doen't require welding. It's 2 pieces of aluminum angle-iron that is held together by bolts, it weights just over 1lb. I build it in my garage at home where a bench mounted drill press was the most advance tool that I used (it might be possible to use a hand drill). It bolts together and bolts onto the 2 threaded holes on the trunk floor and holds solid. Easy on, easy off.
I've been meaning to post the directions on how to make it. I can take some pictures and post them later night. I'll get detailed directions on how to make it soon. I'll put them on in the Audio/Video/Security/NAV/Radar section. I've got some video but it's too large to upload (smallest is 6MB).

A fellow 350Zer used this one at Sebring and the video was great, it is universal and works on any car, it uses a suction cup and sticks to the front windshield.

If you have a small DV camera... here's a free version.. no screwing, drilling, or buying anything. All you need is a small towel. although not as profressionally looking as the others.. it gets the job done somewhat.

For God's sake man, don't pay someone for a mount! Especially $99.00.
I've been fabricating this stuff for years for skydiving and some other sports. You can make any of these types of mounts for about $10 or less at home depot for the parts. Just walk around the shelves and check out the different angled pieces of metal and plastic. Then buy a few suction cups or camera-lock type velcro, or bugee cords, etc. and you're good to go.
Incidentally, I've made a dash mount like the one you posted for about $6 bucks. I've been using it to get streetluge video. I can't believe somebody is actually making money for these things. I'll try to put up a picture tonight.
PS. All these cams mount using the standard 1/4" thumb screw hole in the bottom. Then it's just a matter of figuring out a way to bolt it to the car. Any of the ideas in this thread would be great.
