Default Sound system

I have the base model Z and I want to have a sub put in behind the driver's seat like the Touring version. Should any audio place be able to do that for me?

I thought about doing that, but previous threads about this issue discourged me. The response was that the enclosure is not condusive to producing good bass. Owners who had put-in a sub were not happy with results. Othewise, the install seems fairly basic.

Do you know if it is pre-wired (even if it's a base model)? If so, that should make it very easy. As for the bass issue, search for the member (or members?) who make the custom boxes (enclosures) for behind the seat. If you could get a good sub in a box (with a good amp), I'd bet it would sound much better than a free-air sub.

Just buy this and take this to the audio shop of your choice.

I plan to get a Infinity Bass Link to put in the space behind the driver's seat.. it's self powered, compact, and wouldn't be hard to wire up.

Default Sub enclosure

You can find custom Z sub enclosures on ebay. I got a wooden one that fits my Kicker 10" solobaric for $140 shipped and it is of quite good quality.

If you are going to stick with the stock interior speakers, then you'll definitely need some dynamat in the trunk cuz all your base will be coming from the sub, if the sub you want is any good. If you really want your car to sound nice, I recommend replacing the interiors with Infinity Kappa Perfects 6.1. Get 2 sets of these and you'll have 4 awesome 6 1/2's and 4 1 in. tweeters. The front tweeters fit in the same compartment as the stocks and you can get the rear ones installed right behind your ear. Since your looking at spending around $400 for the Infinities, might as well get an amp for them. Dynamatting the doors is very easy and will help not only with the sound of your system, but also the road noise.

Keep in mind if you go with anything other than a self-powered sub (like the Infinity Basslink) you will need to also have an amplifier installed to drive the sub, so you have to think about where you would want to mount that. I personally bought the behind passenger seat cubby enclosure for 10" sub from Wicked CAS a couple years back and the shop installed it for me. Some shops will ***** about having to work with someone else's enclosure but if the enclosure is worth the money you paid for it then it should fit in just fine.

I just noticed youa re from Limerick. I think there is an Audio Sensations up near the Coventry Mall (right on 724 I think) that could probably do the work for you. Probably on par with Tweeter and the like, except that you won't have to deal with the arrogant bastards at Tweeter.

I'd say "no" to any shop. It would be worth your time to visit shops & get recommendations (such as one above) before you choose. Not all audio shops are created equal.

My suggestion would be,,,if you decide to upgrade your factory speakers, (which I recommend); if you want rear fill,,,,purchase a cheap, decent set of coax. to run off the headunit. You will end up fading towards the front. The position of the rear speakers are horrible for the Z. Use the extra money you would have spent for expensive rear's for a decent amp. and possible pods/kicks for the front stage. If you are going to use comps for the front stage, you will deff. want to invest in an amp that will produce clean RMS watts that closely rates what the speaker ask. +1 on sound proofing the car. There are many companys that make great products. I, myself used Rammat. Rick is the owner and awesome guy to boot. As for adding a sub,,,I would have to recommend an Z enclosure understrut, or Wicked CAS corner box. From what I researched, read and followed here for years, those are the best for sub location. (I guess it depends on what type of sound you are trying to achieve). Again,,this is just my opinion.

As you search and read through these threads you will begin to gain understanding and visualize things that you might like to accomplish. Good luck and keep us posted....
