Default Navigation Reception

I got a navigation system but a guy at Best Buy told me that satellite wouldn't reach it if I put it in the front dash compartment while I'm driving. Is anyone having this problem or was he just clueless? Has anyone permanently mounted one inside the compartment door?

^^I’m assuming are asking about a portable navigation device that has an internal antenna. You should be able to mount this in the Z’s upper/forward cubby and expect excellent reception. The GPS signal will travel through a reasonable amount of glass and plastic. Metal blocks the signal.

If you do have a problem, attach an external antenna and mount it on top of your dash.

I have installed multiple portable GPS systems in the upper cubby and never had any issues with reception. On every indash nav deck that I have installed in a Z I always mount the antenna under the center dash bezel between the three guages and the windshield defroster vent. Plastic does not effect GPS satellites very much at all, and like the post above says, mounting it under metal would be the only cause of significant reception problems.

Its a Garmin Nuvi200W, my sister won it at a highschool lock-in so I'm just buying it from her. I don't think it came with an antenna...
