Crutchfield says no 6 1/2" front speaker fitment!?
According to Crutchfield, there are no 6 1/2 inch speakers to fit the front door locations. I would have to go with a Kenwood 5 1/4 inch speaker and use an adaptor bracket to mount them. How is everyone fitting 6 1/2 inch speakers in their cars? Are you modifying the spcae in there? Help!
Lies.
I have 2 sets of Boston Acoustics Z6's in factory locations; they are 6.5's.
You just have to make a plate (ring basically) of MDF to give the speaker a little more mounting depth. Other than that, they fit perfect.

Yeah, nothing will really fit without a custom bracket or custom modification of the stock bracket. It is very shallow.
But, making a bracket out of the old stock speaker is pretty easy, that's what I did for my Infinity's.

I have MB QUartz 216 (6.5) on the doors as we speak. They had to add a 1" spacer to mocve them forward for clearance with the power window, but they still fit behind the door panel. No problems...

I was thinking about getting those Quarts. What do you think of em? Tweeter fit in the stock location? Also, where did you mount the crossover? Did you do the install yourself? And Finally, do you have the bose system? or the base? Thanks!

I have the BOSE on a Touring. My BOSE amp was replaced (per TSB), and later did the $0.20 fix for the autopilot (volume up/down) thing.
A local tint/sound shop did the install for me. They cut the 1" rim out of wood to clear the power window (they were out of plastic ones).
The tweeters fit perfectly on the stock locations.
He fit the crossovers inside the doors. They did not cut any wires so they can set it all back. Form the outside it looks totally stock.
Usefull info : The OEM setup is only a pair of wires on each door. The same wires go to the 6.5 and the tweeter and the tweeter drops the lows by a resistor. So they just took those wires, ran them into the crossover, and then ran the proper wires to the 6.5s and the tweets.
Result : the rest of my BOSE system is still stock. The door speakers are clear, but they seem "low" on volume. I later found out this setup is a little "power hungry", and it would be better to have a dedicated amp for them. So what I do is I fade the sound forward (+1) and it sounds good (to me). I run the radio mostly at 22 or 24 volume, Bass +3, Trebble +4.
I want the car to sound a little better, but I am NOT a sound "guru"or expert. I am planning to switch the sub and it's amp and then leave it at that. I got the speakers at a good price and I was having an alarm installed anyway, so what the heck. The speakers that came out are pitifull... even by my standards.
Please let me know any other questions...
