Wanted to know if the Phoenix Gold RSD65cs would fit in the front door panel.
They are 2.87" deep (73mm).
If not, anyone know of components in the $100-150 range with decent mid-bass?
Thanks.

I don’t think they will fit into the stock door position.
I say this because I was unable to fit Focal 165 V2 component speakers… Depth from wall: 68mm (2.7”) into the stock door mount.
The Focals have a large magnet, so maybe that was the problem, but the depth (2.7”) is still less than the speaker you ask about.
I went with Focal 165 V Slim - Depth from wall: 56mm (2.2"). That size fits the Z’s front door using a spacer.

its going to be pretty rough fitting that psekaer in there, the stock location is pretty bad as i always say, wtih that psaekr, it all comes down to, as spike said, magnet and bakset size, you may run into the issue that you space it far enoug to clear hte window and it hits the plastic door on excusion or come really close to it cuasing endless buzzing...
if stock location is a must, i typically tell people to get speakres that carry a 2.5" mounting depths or less

those PG RSD sound really GOOD for the price you pay for them! I think 80 bucks gets you a pair. I always wondered if these will fit in the 350z stock locations.. give us an update if u can. also 16psibrick any recommendations for speakers that would fit with the same SQ and price range as those phoenix golds?
if you already bought them , take off door panel , and mock up
if they dont fit no harm done
if they fit install
or just kick out for Nazars door pods and they definetly fit, or send Bing your kick panels and he can glass them in for you

Well I finally put them in...
The woofers did not clear the window with the Zenclosure spacers but only by a tiny margin. So I cut up some foam board and added an additional 1/8" space to clear the window. I also shaved a little off of the door panel so the woofer would not rub up against it.
The tweeters were mounted in the stock location, which ended up making them sound pretty harsh and unbalanced. But they'll have to do for now until I can save up for some kick pods.
All in all it was a HUGE impovement over the stocks and the speakers actually sound pretty amazing. The bass on the speakers are pretty solid but at a certain point the doors start rattling like crazy. So I guess the next step is Dynamat'ing the doors.

good luck getting rid of hte rattles, i have dampend a Z's door on the metal and on the plastic, still cant get rid of some very annoying buzzes and rattles aroundt he sepaker grille area, and also near the door handles, and window switch area..it helps but never can get it good enough for my tastes.
this coupled with the lack of midbass and tonality issues, is why i hvae decided never to use that location hehe..
what did you exactly shave on the door to make it fit? the grille part isnt very thick so i am curious what portion did you take off?
pics would definerly help!

^^ 2.6" depth from wall will be close. It might work, but I have my doubts.
As Bing mentions, if you must do any "shaving" or cutting to fit the speaker into the stock door position, you're probably in for trouble with buzzing and vibration. You may not hear it immediately after the installation, but probably will have trouble with this sooner than later.
