Fitting 3.1" mounting depth on front speaker?
Is this possible at all even with spacer? I searched and seemed like the preferred depth is 2.5 and under. But the speakers I'm getting soon has a mounting depth of 3.1".
Not a picture of mines, but here's a side view of the speaker.

No one is replying, so I thought I would at least offer the following comment.
I doubt this speaker will fit the stock front door position. I tried fitting Focal 165 V2 (Depth from wall: 68mm (2.7")), and it would not fit in the stock front door speaker location.

^^ If you don't want door pods or kicks...
Focal 165 V Slim (Depth from wall: 56mm (2.2")) fit the Z's stock door position perfectly, and they sound just great there. I placed the tweeters into the A-Pillars.

Thanks for the suggestion. Still looking around, looking at some illusion audio and seas at the moment. Still haven't made up my mind yet got my hu/tweeter/sub/amp picked out already though, originally went with OEM Image Dynamic but found out we have a depth issue. 2.5" and under depth sucks without going pods/kicks. May go with something with neo motors. Also currently looking at Mach5 mid bass drivers now, 2.6" might be pushing it maybe.

Even 2.6" is pushing "it a little," but I think you could make that fit (but just barely, and that's if the magnet diameter is not large).
Just curious... Are you opposed to kicks or door pods?
Just so you know, I don't use kicks or door pods for reasons I've posted here, but I am interested in other opinions.

I don't like kicks because I like my dead pedal, and plus it's too much custom work (fiberglassing involved) and never looks that great to me, I do not like the door pods because they do not look that good (they look alright) and they cost a good amount really. Speaker spacers are easy to make and are a much easier solution for me.
^^ I agree… and glad to read a message from someone else seeing it the same way.
Kicks provide the best sound, followed closely by door pods. But kicks rob the dead pedal space, and door pods get scraped during entry and exit. And, as you point out, kicks or door pods can look like “add-ons” unless you buy the be$t and spend a lot more $$ for installation.
All of that is solved by the stock door position, and the right speaker makes a huge difference. The stock door position can deliver adequate midrange. There are several options to install the SubW. I really think it is the tweeter position that provides great sound and is what defines a good installation.
