we dont have a decent audio shop around here so i cant go and listen to everything i want before i buy it so i have to rely on word of mouth and pray it works out.
im looking at the Eclipse SC8365 3-way, anyone heard it play before?

i was also looking at the JL c5 set, they actually have those so i can hear them.

I actually have these, I had them in my Mazda6 and took'em out and now putting them in my z.
I love them I think they sound great and you really can't beat the price on them the woofer puts out some incredible bass coupled with the mid range and tweeter sound bad ***....these can handle some power too had them hooked up to the Eclipse XA4000 111watts RMS @4ohms and they too it like a champ.
Hope this helps

3 way comps, like ANY compoentn set, is not about bass. and what sub you run should have no bearing on if you need 2 or 3 way components.
all 6.5" components, SHOULD be hipassed around 60-80hz range for longeivity and overall SQ, some isntalls, unique to their speaker selectio and vehicle, can be high passed lower, but the general rule is around 80hz. this means, if you dont have a sub, it doesnt sound very good. and you dont ever want to run a 6.5" full range, if good overall SQ is your goal
hell you are right back to why most stock systems sound so bad, making a 6.5" or smaller speaker go full range hehe.
back on point, the main advantage, of a 3 way system (well designed ones), is midrange clarity, having a dedicated mid takes the burden off the 6.5" midbass to produce midrange signals.
