just thought id toss my .02 out there.. im running a pair of Kicker CompVX subs in the "ZR" boxes.. and yes they are deeper than the Wicked C.A.S. glovebox enclosure will allow.. but thats not hard to fix All you need to do is make a spacer to make up the difference (as long as its not too much) After you have made your calculations and routed your spacer ring use some liquid nails to fuse the ring to the FG box.. I let the rings dry for about 2 days then ran some calk around the rim just for good measure although im sure this step was not needed..

**WARNING** this method can only be used to make up small differences in depth.. This does not mean you can make any sub fit. you can only add a .5 to .75 inch MDF spacer in most cases before you run the risk of the subwoofer surround coming in contact with the body of the vehicle. CARE MUST BE TAKEN WITH CALCULATIONS***

Okay now that I got the disclaimer out of the way, here are some pictures..

Here are the boxes fresh off the FedEx truck...

now we need to glue the ring into place on the enclosure...

then put some calk around the ring to make double sure of an airtight seal..

Im running the Kickers off a JL Audio 1000/1v2.. it gets down and dirty! The only thing i plan to change is taking the boxes back out and doing some bracing inside the enclosure... the thin fiberglass walls flex a bit to much under heavy load.. but im sure I can fiberglass some MDF braces in and fix that right up.

The Wicked C.A.S. boxes are great for people who want to save room or might be going for a stealth install. I will say that done right the "glovebox" enclosures sound just as good or better than any of the other boxes that take up cargo space.

Sooooo... IMO I would forget the "free air" idea and get a Wicked C.A.S. box.. you'll be happy with the results for sure!

^^ Nice write-up/pictures!

The only thing I would be concerned about is the clearance between the back of the sub and the box wall. The CVX's have a vented pole piece in the middle of the back of the sub. It should have at least 1 1/2" of clearance for the sub to 'breath' properly. Some subs (like the new Type R's for instance) 'breath' out the sides of the bottom of the magnet so clearance is less of an issue. Something to keep in mind.

yea.. they have about .75 of clearance. About half as much as what the specs call for.. There is an angled hump inside the box. That hump is what the sub "bottoms" out on as far as the max depth goes..

but this does help in the fact that it will not allow the user to put a sub in the box with the breather hole flat against the wall.. It should have more room to breathe, yes.. but sometimes things just have to be "close enough"
