damn you guys- I'm worried about getting "the bug"
So my Kenwood DNX7100 arrives today and already I am looking at threads with a second screen in an '03 cubby... If not for reading and seeing it here I never would even consider this!
I find myself trying to rationalize, my thoughts on both sides of the argument go something like this:
"2 screens in a 2 seater car is just ridiculous, it's totally unnecessary"
"2 screens would look so cool at night"
"I could play a music video on my Kenwood and have navigation on the top screen"
"a top screen would be easier to glance at while driving"
"this is insane, 1 screen is plenty"
"I like that cubby for my sunglasses"
"a constantly running rearview cam would be so cool"
I am just torn right now and somewhat in disbelief I am even considering a 2nd screen, I mean what's next should I just put a fishtank in the hatch??! I'm usually practical with a steak of extravagant behavior, now I feel myself getting the "audio bug" to keep adding stuff. Can anyone talk me out of a 2nd screen?
I still cannot believe I am even considering this, I really think it's overkill but after seeing how cool it looks it's just hard to kill the thought of doing it. I'll already have the Dnx7100, would it be as easy as sliding a screen into a 03 cubby and hooking to an output on the 7100? If it's that easy I might do it, but if I need to hardwire anything then I can easily talk myself out of it...

In my opinion, no. One may look good, but more then that I think is just too much...For any car. But like everything else, it's your money and your car. You do what you like not what other people like. Just don't go out of control and end up not liking it.
Something to consider when making your decision is DNX7100 won’t output its navigation to a remote LCD screen. You can only view and operate the navigation component from the built-in screen.

only reason i can see two screens is if you had no nav. on your dvd headunit and wanted it to look OEM. I almost went that route double din and then a screen in the nav cubby to run navigation. I wouldnt buy an 03 cubby for it though i would get a navigation cubby and mount the screen in it so it looks OEM.
Are you kidding me? How many cars can you easily put two screens in? Not many at all that look good! The space is there...therefore you must put a screen in there. There is a sunglass holder above in the cieling console and a spot under your armrest.
2 screens dude. It must be done.

Your setup looks great.
I agree with your comment about space for dual screens:
My issue with the DD all-in-one devices is the fact they do not allow throwing the navigation image/control to a remote LCD screen (that you mount in the upper/forward cubby where your navigation should be in the Z).
