help with audio
I have decided to get clarion vrx935vd as my head unit. I have never installed an head unit before and this is going to be my first. My friend who have done audio work before says that i need to get an harness and a plug kit. I was wondering if i can get those at Circuitcity or Bestbuy. I know clarion isn't the most popular brand out there so i am kinda scared that it will not have the kits for the clarion to nissan plugs. Any help will be appreciated. If anyone in this forum has a site thats sells these harness and place a link to it will be appreciated.
Also I am considering making my own fiberglass sub box to put in my Z. Again this is my first project so any experts that can assist me on the tidbits will be much appreciated. I have readup on how to make a regular custom box for the sub but didn't have any luck on diy on fiberglass box. Again if anyone on the forum knows any site that has a step by step instruction on making these, will be much appreciated if someone can post me a link. And finally if i were to make a fiberglass enclosure do i make the outline (skeleton) with wood or with chicken wires or both?
Thanks for the time ... and PLEASE HELP!

yeah you can get an adapter for your head unit at Circuit city.
as for fiberglass, heres what I did

go to homedepot and get fiberglass cloths and resin. Get a few disposable brushes too, cause theres no way to get the resin off the brush. depending where you want to put the sub, you need to mask it with tape and aluminum foil (acts like butter so you can remove it when it dries) Cut the cloth in strips and just lay it down with resin layer by layer till you get a nice strong side.
do a search on google, there are couple of sites with fiberglass info.

alphared,
Do they sell the harness too? If so how much do these adaptor and harness cost about.
Another quick question. I am going to get the center speaker that clarion makes down the road. Is there any special wiring i should know about to get the 5.1 sound?
Again thx for the time and help!

To get true 5.1 surround sound from the Clarion VRX935VD, you will need to get the Clarion DVH920 Dolby Digital/DTS decoder. The VRX935VD will not give you 5.1 surround without this decoder box.

The harness for the 350Z has Nissan plugs at one end, and color coded bare wire at the other. The bare wire end needs to be connected to the Clarion harness from the VRX935VD. You just need to match the wire colors and use crimp connects to make the connections.
The VRX935VD has a hide away box that needs to be mounted somewhere in the front of the car. I mounted mine under the passenger seat, and ran the harness under the carper and up into the dash.
You will also need an dash install kit. Metra makes this, as well as the adapter harness.
Hope this helps...

The VRX935VD has 2 pieces. The main unit that goes into the dash (with the screen and main face), and another unt which has the amplifiers, harness connectors, antenna connector, and the audio/video inputs. This is the box that is connected to the main unit by a special cable that comes with the VTX935VD. It needs to be mounted in the front of the car. When you get the 935 and open the box, you will see what I am talking about.
