Do you see where I am going with this?

Hah, everyone hates on Jensen because it's not expensive. They're not junk, you know. It's made by Audiovox. Sure, it doesn't compare to a Kenwood or an Alpine, but it's undoubtedly the best head unit out there in its price range. What else do you have to choose from, Phase Linear? Garbage. If you've got the buck to spend on something nicer, then sure, return it. But, don't expect to upgrade for the same sort of cash. I work in the industry and I'm actually fairly impressed with the Jensen units, all things considered. The user interface isn't TOO bad; it's actually bearable to look at in comparison to all the flea market crap that's out there these days. It's got a sub-out, onboard equalizer, easy to use iPod interface... Pretty cool if you want to spend next to nothing.

You get hat you pay for.

I remember when I used to work at a pretty big car audio shop a few years back and we started to carry Jensen as an entry level line. We got 4 cases (thats 16 units total) of these $80 decks in. They looked cheap, felt cheap and sounded terrible but hey, they covered the entry level market. At the time I was working in the service department and you know what? We got 13 of the decks back within the first 2 months because they just stopped working. My theory is that the other three customers were so pissed that they never came back.

My point is this: eventually you will need to replace this head unit. It will break and you'll be stuck with no tunes and a big useless brick in your dash. I wouldn't say Jensen was garbage if I didn't know what I was talking about. If you want cheap, get a Panasonic as they got out of the car audio game and they are selling all their stock for super cheap right now. From what I hear they are still covering warranty too.

I dunno, Orgasm_donor... Maybe it was a stroke of bad luck? In 2008, we sold sixteen of Jensen's touch screen units and only three came back, one of which had nothing wrong with it and was simply used as a credit toward a Pioneer AVIC unit. I'm not saying they're the cream of the crop, but I don't think they're junk. I wasn't aware that Panasonic was liquidating their head units. The JL Audio demo car in my showroom has a Strada double DIN unit in it. It's not bad. It'd be wise to take advantage of that. Just whatever you do, gmic350z, don't buy Clarion.

Oh, and there's no doubt that the Jensen units are bricks. They stick out from the dash like it's nobody's business... All of their head units do.

Lately Clarion has been pissing me off with all of their different Ipod cables, boxes, modules and blech! Also, I find that the Clarion's do stick out a lot. I would pick a Clarion over a Panasonic, Jensen, Sony, Valour, ching-chang-chong brand etc...

Damn, I guess Jensen are crap. If it is, then I think the tech is just trying to exhaust all option before having to replace your HU. I do hope it's not the HU due to all the headaches.

Clarion's latest double DIN head units don't impress me whatsoever. We've got one of Rockford Fosgate's demo-purpose Scion xBs in our showroom. It has a Clarion MAX675VD touch screen with navigation. I'd have to say that the user interface experience is far LESS impressive than even the Jensen's. There's nothing to it. It's BORING. If we're talking about Clarion's non touch screen units, I'd speak differently about them.

I was talking about a Clarion DXZ785USB single DIN unit.
