^^ There has not been a great demand for HD on 7” monitors since the image is so small. However, you can have HD in your car. Check this out:

Things you should consider before purchasing equipment that you want to display in HD:
http://www.totevision.com/Second/Tot...20MONITORS.htm
Things you should consider before purchasing equipment that you want to display in HD:
- If you use a NTSC/PAL monitor, it must be capable of at least 720p/1080i for HD display.
- Your monitor must have at least component connectors for 720p/1080i. If you want 1080p, you need a digital connector (DVI, HDMI, or VGA).
- The same is true for your video source (DVD player or navigation device). To support HD, it needs at least component video connectors for 720p/1080i, or digital output (DVI, HDMI, or VGA) for 1080p.
- Composite video or S Video connectors can only go to 480p, and cannot provide an HD image.

Geez… where you been lately? I miss the cutting remarks you can deliver so effectively and how it makes the Forum much more interesting.
This time I must agree with you when viewing motion-video (i.e., a DVD movie): Your words (“HD is overkill on such a small monitor”) is correct. We sure have not seen many manufacturers rushing to HDMI connectors for their mobile products (at least not yet).
However, 480p isn’t adequate for a CarPC or a GPS box capable of showing very fine detail, and I believe this is where the OP’s comments are based.
If you run a CarPC and see its image on a LCD, you are “ruined” for viewing 480p. The same goes when viewing the RGB display you get with Alpine and Kenwood products. Albeit these are proprietary systems that require using the respective manufacturer’s devices, but the RGB display from these companies looks great. Even Garmin rethought the GVN 52 and reworked the device as the GVN 53 to support RGB monitors after seeing their early partner (Kenwood) license the same device and connect it to Kenwood’s LCD monitors with RGB.

Anyways, he's got a PS3 right at the back of the truck. You can see it peeking up over the ledge. We used a Monster HDMI 600 10 foot cable supplied by the customer for the video. He paid waaayyy too much but whatever. The power supply is a 1000 watt Statpower that resides under the floor panel beside the PS3. Its a fantastic unit. He is also running two Kinetic HC1400's under the hood and 5 Alpine PDX amps under the 2nd row seating.

^^ Thanks for the reply and info. Truthfully I’ve always wondered how Monster can pull-off their successful campaign/stance. In the digital world it’s 0/1 or YES/NO… In other words it works or doesn’t work. Somehow Monster continues to make people believe there is a significant benefit and paying $$$$ is a wise choice. Of course the markup is huge, providing the reseller with an enormous profit. HDMI cables cost anywhere from cheap to terribly expensive, and there is really no difference. If you buy an HDMI cable that doesn’t work, you simply return it for one that does.
And, I agree… In any business you want clients with both cash and taste. Unfortunately it usually is a client with great taste and no cash, or a client with awful taste and lots of cash.
