Default Escort 8500 installation

I wanted to hard wire my escort 8500 but didn't like thier mount with the suction cups on the windshield. So I made a mount that attached the unit to the rearview mirror. I machined the mount out of black nylon. I bent the original suction cup bracket to a 90 and bolted it on my mount. I used the optional power cable with light and mute button. The supplied velcro tape was used to mount the mute button to the lower dash. Works great. Had to put the "Z" on the mount!!

Very nice job. How does it attach to the review mirror holder? Looks like you just cut a hole in the nylon and slipped it through but I think that it would rotate right?

Where can you get such nylon? Did you use a router to "machine" it?
Thanks.

I work at a machine shop. We machine mostly plasics. The part is made on a cnc router. I drill and tap the holes before I cut thru the mounting hole. I bolt it back together over the mirror mount to clamp to it.

My 8500 has begun 'jumping' off of the mount when I hit a bump in the road . It doesn't come completely off of the mount but it moves to the next notch on the bracket and points down.
It is aggravating to say the least.

Are you thinking of selling you new device?
I may be interested.

The clamp is rock solid to the mirror. My 8500 doesn't move at all on the mount. The suction cups give to much when hitting a bump.
Mine used to do that but not any more.

I could make the bracket for $20 including shipping (in US only)

PM me with address if interested

Can the 8500 be removed for storage easily from the bracket. Similar to the stock one?

You bolt on the original suction mount to my bracket. The detector comes on and off buy pressing the button on top of the detector.

Default Nice piece

I've been running one of Mike's mounts for my passport 8500 for about 6 months now and it is one of the best things I've got for the car. The only thing that I've had to do was stick a small piece of black sponge between the top of the passport and the bottom of the mirror because it would vibrate and rattle a lot, but now it's fine.

i have Mike's radar holder as well. I love it. My only problem is that i like to have my mirror arm pointing downwards so that i can see more, and if the stick is angled like at 45 degrees downward, then the bracket is mounted at a 45 degree as well, which makes the radar touch the mirror. If the piece could be longer with a 45 degree bend in the middle, it would be awesome (maybe an attachment, Mike?)

I know this thread is a bit old, but will the mount work on an 06 with the homelink mirror (for a v1)?
