what head unit?
I went with Alpine. IMO they have some of the best HUs.
The CDA9815 has some incredible features I havent touched yet. You can customize the millisecond delay individually from all 4 speakers and two subs to move the center of the sound in any direction. You can burn this information onto a disc, and the HU will load and save that information. That right there was worth the price for me.

I went with the Alpine 9813 HU
It has 60x4 internal power if you're looking to upgrade your system in stages and don't want to put in an amp right away this is a great route to go.
Also, if you go to ebay you can find it shipped to your door for $285.99 which is $113 cheaper than buying it at Circuit City or Best buy (not including TAX!)
Even buying the wiring harness and and Metra kit wont put you over the retail price at these stores.

9813 is a decent head unit but my money would go to Clarion Pro Audio, Eclipse or Nakamichi. In the $300-400 range a Nak CD400 or Clarion Pro Audio DXZ845MC are the two best sounding head units available. The Eclipse 8443 can be found $389, sometimes cheaper, and if you can grab it at that price is by far the best HU under $400. You'll have to sweet talk a local dealer to get the Eclipse that low but I know several friends have found it that low. I got my 8053 16V Eclipse for $379 - by far a steal at almost $200 off list.
