Default Headunit Replacement Question

Hi Guys,

I have an Alpine Headunit installed in my car with subs/amp. I want to switch it out for a new headunit with at the very least an aux connection so i can hook up my Ipod to it. Could someone tell me if this requires re-wiring the main connection plug (i think its called the wiring harness) or is it as simple as removing the old headunit and plugging in a new one?

Thanks!!!

You need a harness. Go to:

www.metraonline.com

You'll find what you need there.

Since you already have a head unit installed you will be able to reuse half of it. You just unplug the harness they used for the alpine from the car. Cut off the alpine harness and rewire the one that comes with the new head unit

You can re-use the harness as said, but you'll still need the part that connects in to the new headunit (as said). I would recommend getting a wire diagram online for the stereo molex connection and the new harness before you remove your dash, just in case the previous installer did not use a harness and cut directly in to the main wires (seen it before...). Good luck

I'd like to ask this- if I'm replacing the stock Bose head unit, what adapters and extra parts would I need to install an aftermarket head unit? I heard that Nissan wired quite a few systems into the stock head unit and that doesn't sound too appealing when ripping it out.
