Depends on your needs. I've done quite a lot of research on alarms, and I've decided that my alarm should have remote start (for those cold cold winter days....don't get it if you have a manual...too much liability), 2-way lcd pager so I can see whats going on my car and be alerted when someone smashes my window (has range for about 1/3 mile), and the usual trunk/hood/window/door sensors. The best ones out there that have these options are the Viper 791xv (older model is 790xv), Audiovox Prestige APS-996, and the Clifford RS3.5. These systems including install will run you about $500~600. I'm sure they're more out there, but those are the most popular/dependable ones. I'm going to also add a tilt sensor so if anyone is thinking about jacking up my car to steal my wheels, I'll be alerted of it.
Want more information? Do some research in www.sounddomain.com > forums > security sense. A lot of good information there. If you need more help, feel free to ask.

I've got the Compustar 2WSS and it is unreal. I have it set up with proximity so if someone is standing beside the car for too long, my remote vibrates so I can look outside or whatever to see what's up.
It has NEVER gone off because of weather or vibration from turd monkeys that drive through the parking garage with their loud mufflers, it has a 1.25 mile range and it doesn't matter where you are, it goes through everything.
I'll be parked at the bottom of a parking garage, be upstairs 7 or 8 floors at the movies and my pocket will vibrate to call attention to someone standing beside my Z. Interference? haha, I don't think so. It just plain rocks.
I have the top model with the exception of auto start, I didn't want that option. I love it and wouldn't trade it for another alarm.

i'm glad you like your alarm. i just got my compustar installed. please let me know the following when you get a chance...i am clueless when it comes to alarms...
-where did you have the antenna?--mine is on top part of winshield
-is it easy to adjust sensitivity level of the alram? if so how?
-my system seems to work from a long distance, but not over a mile! i'm wondering if there is something wrong with mine
thanks bro...

Hey jboyyracer I can answer that since I have the same alarm.
- Mine is also installed on top part of the windshield
- The sensitivity level can be adjusted easily. It's right under the steering wheen to your left ( a little bit higher where the clutch is ).
- Even though they advertize as 1.25 miles range, that means that you have to be in an open field to work at that distance. If there is any interference, the range will go down also.
I got mine installed for $550 with the remote start option. I have it on the max sensitivity level since I don't trust people around here. When I say sensitive I mean it. This thing goes off when a plane flies by! Or sometimes when the wind blows too much. Sometimes I have to switch it to half sensitive because it's just too much sometimes. I love this and it was worth it. All I need now is some mechanism to electricute people when they touch the car

So I guess the choice will be between the Compustar and the clifford. Some saying that the clifford is really nice and the pager is smaller. Do you need to install an alarm that has been approved by nissan? I mean Compustar vs. Clifford

Divi , I install both of the piece talked about ( clifford and compustar ) where i work. The clifford remote is fractionally smaller than the compustar but, overall the compustar is a nicer unit im my opinion.

Keep in mind that the "motion sensor" may be a pain if you live somewhere where the weather changes..
I'm in the Midwest and had a Motion Sensor on my alarm and it was getting so bad to the point to where it would set it off when:
*leaves fell by the car
*wind blew to hard
*with the air density on some months, it would have a 20+ foot range regardless of how sensitve you set it (SUCKS when you are in a parking lot)
*I could go on and on and on.
I'm sure it would kick some butt if you were somewhere where the air density doens't fluctuate to throw off the sensor.
Just my 2 cents :-)

I went with the Prestige 996 and I love it because of the features that were added. I had it set up so that the proxy has a separate siren so it doesn't set the alarm off all the time. It's different than the G5 Clifford Alarms with built in proxy. I use the proxy more as a warning rather than have it constantly go off. That can get pretty annoying and I don't want to be annoying my neighbors.
The lcd tells you what part of the car was broken into. I can remote roll down the window to what ever I want and then roll them up also. I can pop the trunk and gas cover remotely. I have a 6 speed and I remote start all the time for warm her up. I never park in gear because I not used to it but regardless there's actually a wire that my installer found that checks to make sure it's in neutral before auto starting.
That's about it for alarm for me. I'm pretty satisfied with it. I would never go back to a regular alarm. The 2 way paging systems are awesome.
