Amazing sound system! Pioneer AVIC-Z110BT in-dash navigation, Kicker amp, Pioneer sub
I am one of those who thinks Bose system really sucks on our cars and I have been looking for a replacement system for a while. I let Harvey's Tint Alarm Stereo in Lake Worth, FL replace the entire sound system and I could not be happier. Just wanted to share some installation pictures for those planning to replace the sound system and give you an option after hearing how good listening enjoyment can get after replacing my premium (?) sound system...
Here is what we have used to do this system:
- Pioneer AVIC-Z110BT in-dash navigation DVD
- Pioneer 6.5 inch component set TS-D1720C and 6.5 in coax TS-D1602R
- Pioneer 10 inch flat sub TS-SW2501S2
- Kicker ZX700.5 amp
You can easily find reviews for each product we have used on my system and they are all great. But the big fun starts when you put them all together and power the system up Speakers are extremely clear even on very high levels and whatever you do on equalizer settings to try to get some distortion will fail. I mean it is unreal, I have never listened music on these levels with no distortion at all.
I really love the head unit, it has everything you need, GPS, dvd, mp3 player etc etc. What I am loving is to be able to use a 16GB SD card and have thousands of songs in the system whenever you need them instead of switching cd's.
They installed the Pioneer sub right behind the driver seat, where Bose sub used to be except it is 10 times more powerful They built a custom box to fit it there and sub sounds awesome in there, shaking the entire car on high base levels and it is very very clear.
I was going back and forward between an Infinity Kappa Five Amp and this Kicker one and after reading reviews for a while I decided to go with the Kicker one. It does the job beautifully, my head unit's max volume level is 40 and I can barely go up to 20-25 now
You are welcome to let me know if you have any questions. Special thanks to Dave and Ian in Harvey's Stereo, they have done an amazing job on my Z, by far the best shop I have ever worked with. Thank you guys!

Glad your happy with the turn out but a 10inch 300w flat sub shaking the entire car lol. You should of had them dynamat and seal your doors it completely makes the mid bass come alive its def a night and day difference.

believe me, I have never thought this sub can be this powerful lol. It is 1200W with 300W RMS and I can say it is more than enough for a Z. People are installing 2x12inch subs on Z's and I am wondering how it sounds like in car with such a small interior...
they made a great custom box for the sub but as you said we end up sealing around the whole box because when you turn the sub level and bass booster all the way up it started shaking the gas tank lol. so they put dynamat to make it sound a lot nicer and cleaner. made a big difference as you said. I could not be happier
if your sub is more powerful, just be careful to not going deaf lol, I could not stand anything more powerful than this one

Not a bad setup.
And any sub will sound loud if you crank the crossover all the way up and turn on your HU's bass boost, but just be aware that if you like to listen to your sub loud often that it's not good for longevity of the speaker.
And +1 on the comment about dampening everywhere around the speakers - I cannot believe how much better it made my midrange sound.
And I have had 1800 to one RE XXX 12" and later to 2 12" Kickers, but I must agree, for my style of listening, the 1 10" on 400 watts that I have now is way more than enough.

Thanks for the advice bro! I figured it will not last long with those settings too and they are all in mid levels now. Even on mid levels it is more than enough for me, I guess I am not a bang bang fan lol.
Yeah, I learned my lesson about the premium (?) systems. I wish I got the base one instead of Touring, such a waste of money if you are replacing everything anyways lol.
wow to 2 12" Kickers don't get me wrong, it is great to have more power but it is just too much if your head will blow up after 5 minutes lol.

Well, it was still a lot of $ for me lol. Spent around 2K for HU, sub, amp, speakers and install but not bad at all considering what you get. definitely worth it! I know they used dynamat all around the sub box to avoid the noise coming from the fuel tank shaking, but I am not sure sealing the door panels with it will make any difference, I will definitely consider, thanks for advice!

Glad your happy with it the dynamat really does help, i used an enitre bulk kit plus one sheet from a trunk kit. Sound really is a preference thing, for my system i couldn't have anything but JL audio, i just love their sound, also had the same headunit as you. My entire system retailed for about 6k. However, i would never pay retail lol i hope you didn't really pay the 2k reatail on the z110bt cause i got mine brand new from an audio store for $900 flat with all the gps, and extras.

Thanks a lot man! I am really loving it No way, I did not pay 2k for z110bt, I paid $870 without MSN direct or other extras (I guess it will be useless soon anyways). 2k for the entire system, I heard JL audio is great too but I just did not want to break the bank more than I did lol.
I will look into that dynamat stuff further man, enjoy JL sound

F*** jl their products are over priced. Tweets are way too bright, their recone policies are ridiculous and the flagship w7 is a joke compared to other subs in its class. The w6 is nice but still overpriced.

Dont get me wrong some of their stuff is nice but there are a bunch of small internet companies that completely blow them out the water. Incriminator Audio,Sundown, Dc, DD, SSA etc etc just sad most people will never hear of these companies.

I love the way JL sounds, I just could not afford it lol. If you got the system less than 3K thats a great deal, I dont think you can beat that for an entire JL system. I give it a try with Pioneer and I am happy with the results. As said, it is just a personal preference, I know many people are extremely happy with the crappy Bose sound system and they dont even want to touch it thinking that it will mess the sound quality up lol.

Most important thing is that you are happy with what you paid for. Only thing I would change with what they did would be hack up the old sub cover to hide the bare sheet metal, right now it looks kinda half done. And why did they go with the shallow sub? There is a good 2 feet of space behind the sub and normally you would only se those when depth is an issue like behind a truck seat or under it.
Other than that looks good and glad you like it.

thanks man! actually that is just a picture during the install, they did put the old sub cover back on and everything looks factory. also the sub is not facing front anymore, it is laying down through the space behind like you mentioned, sounds much better that way
