I'm looking to spend $20 - $30 on a backup camera, any recommendations?

It's just more of an thing I want to add in for fun...

How about the one that's the subject of this thread? One of the cheapest I've seen so far.

Some of the other pics in the thread are from that module. I've been very happy with mine. In the dark, the picture is a little grainy, more so than the $150 Audiovox backup camera I had at first. The addition of the guidelines makes it worth it though.

My plan is to power the camera via the reverse light and also use the reverse light to send the single to my double din.

I did not remove the bumper. You do have to remove the license plate and the interior panel. You can work the wire through the rubber grommet behind the plate through to the rear hatch. I grounded to a bolt on the back side of the rear hatch under the removed panels.

so just tried to install the camera... got it wired up and seems like I got a dead camera.

Had the reverse signal to headunit and power connected to same source in the back of car... checked and rechecked the input signal on headunit. I'll get the headunit to switch to rear view camera mode but all I see is black, no input from camera.

sent the ebay seller a message asking for an exchange. sucks that I have the car all taken apart.

Update: Seller contacted me fairly quickly and worked it out where I paid him an extra $10 and he shipped me a new camera. Wired it up and works great! - guess the first one I got was bad or something. For anyone thinking to buy a rear view camera, I'd say for the ~$35 its worth it!

Couple pics:

Default Cant get this thing to work!!!

Has anyone had a problem with the rearview camera and the Magellan 1700??

I bought the CCD rear view camera and the Magellan 1700, wired everything but when I put the car in reverse nothing happens. it is like the magellan does not even recognize that there is a cable plugged in. I am using the RCA video cable that came with the camera.

Any thoughts on what could be happening.

Just in case, I wired the camera to the light green wire in the trunk.

03-08 use the same plate lights, signals, tails (shape) so they will all fit.

The camera you pick will have to work with your headunit.

Cheers

I would use a voltemeter to see if the camera is actually getting power from the light green wire in the trunk.
The magellan will need a 12v line to signal that its getting a reverse input, thats how must hu know to turn on the rear view camera input.

You can also try connecting your camera to another input just to test that is working when the car is in reverse.

Hey, looking to get the CCD camera from here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nissan-350Z-...ht_6682wt_1163

However, I already have the OEM navigation system, and I don't want to install an aftermarket head-unit, as having 2 screens will look odd.
Does anyone know if it is possible to hook up this or another back-up camera to the OEM navigation system screen?

Thanks!

I believe the navigation 'OK' bypass adds an auxilary video input.

okay. ive read through plenty pages. and just confused. i want to make sure to do this right. so please, spare me, and someone help me with what i have.

Magellan 7" gps. this back up camera.

you take the wire from the camera, and feed it through the license plate area. got that.

now, ..what?

how do i go from that little camera having that one plug to wiring it to my gps to turn on when i put it in reverse????

im guessing ill need extra wire? or do i need to wire this camera wire into one of the reverse light wires? how then will the gps pick that up automatically???

How is this backup camera lasting after a year or two? I bought an Audiovox from some other threads recommendation and it has died after having condensation build up stuck in between the lenses.
