Receiver Audio Quality Question

Hey guys,
I have recently purchased the Polk Audio DXi 6500 and 650 speakers for my Z since the stock speakers were driving me crazy (back right one was rattling hard). I listened to them at the store and they sounded great and the price was worth the purchase in my opinion. I've been listening to them for over two weeks now and the quality of the sound just isn't very good. I have a Kicker 850Watt Amp hooked up to them but I'm getting a Boston Acoustics 900 Watt Amp tomorrow since one of the front outputs does not work on my Kicker.
Besides the fact that I only have one front speaker/tweeter working, could it be my receiver that's causing the poor audio quality? I have a Dual XHD7714 (http://www.dualav.com/mobileaudio/xhd7714.php) receiver that I purchased from Best Buy about a month ago.
I used to own an Alpine receiver in my Hyundai and in my opinion it sounded better even with the stock speakers.
Could it really be the receiver that's causing the audio quality?
Thanks
Edit: I've tried playing around with treble/bass settings as well as the equalizer. There is no "loud" option on this receiver.

Are you still using factory speaker wires? Why in the world would you need an 800-900 watt amplifier to run coax or components for that matter ? I would get all my speakers working first before making a sound quality judgement .

No they are new speaker wires. The Amp only pushes out 100 Watts per channel @ 4 Ohms and I have 100 Watt RMS speakers.
Yeah I'm gonna wait till I have the new Amp in to make that determination.

Is it a 4 channel or 2 channel amp ? If it is a 4 channel 100x4 , that would be a 400 watt amp . Where did you get 850?

Alright so I put in the Boston Acoustics amp and now all the channels are working properly. I also found out that my stereo did have a "loud" option so I turned it on and of course it did wonders for the sound quality.
All in all I'm pretty happy with my setup.
Thanks for the help.
