Default Stock Enclosure Question

I have a 04 Enthusiast w/o the bose System

can a speaker installer still use the stock area for an install? I looked at the plastic faring that goes over it and it seems to me that it would need to be cut to allow a sub. The pics that I've seen of other rides here seem to suggest that there is some kind of lid type clamp that can be opened and closed there . Suggestions ?
What is the largest sub that can fit in the enclosure ?

The panel that covers that area is removable--it does not even require tools. I would recommend against installing a sub there; it's a much better spot for amps. However, if you decide to install a sub there, Courtesy Parts has the Blose sub cover (it snaps right in like the cover you already have) for around $6.

The reason I'd recommend putting amps and other electronics in that location is that it's pretty lousy for a sub. The enclosed space is around like 5 cubic feet (including the side where the glovebox is) and is riddled with little holes. I am sure that the panels that cover that area will rattle like hell with a powerful sub installed. My amps are installed in the factory sub area on an aluminum amp rack: They're completely hidden from view, are mounted very securely, adjustments are easily done, and I have no heat problems.

save that space for anyhting but your sub...and move the sub to the hatch, if you care about how your system will sound. Its hard to get good sounding bass from a speaker that is positioned directly behind the driver. A few feet of airspace is adequate to develop a good/clean bass wave...so I would suggest mounting amps there instead, and leave the sub to be installed in the hatch area.

Trust me, because I have done it. Don't do it in the stock area. I have dynamated and foamed it but it still doesnt sound good. It rattles like crazy. I ended up with ordering Nazars fiberglass box. I am still waiting for it though. Initially, I was running a JL w3 with 250/1 JL amp. With Nazar's box I will be upgrading to 2 JL w6v2 and 1000.1 amp.

Thanks for the suggestion. I guess my main concern is the fact that some of the installs that I've seen eat up the hatch area space. Not that I will lug groceries around in the car but you never know when you might want to take something along with you. To me it would suck not to be able to carry something because I have my hatch area filled with subs. I like some of the more stealthy installs like the rear quarterpanel inlay and the under the strut tower bar. Does anyone know if the latter can accept two 10's ?

I have 2 JL w8's in the stock area, in a custom fiberglass enclosure and it sounds freakin' fabulous. Maybe it would sound better in the hatch (I have a roadster anyway), but not everyone wants to dedicate every spare inch of space and storage to audio equipment. As long as you get a good custom enclosure your set. I believe 2 8's are the biggest pair you can squeeze in and still have enough space for a decent enclosure. If you squeeze too big a sub/pair in that space you will run into problems with adequate porting.

I did 2 JL10w3v2 behind the seats (removed the glove box). Yeah in the hatch would be louder, but I was going for the quality not the window rattling effect. With my amp (JL 500/1) gained down as well as the deck, the subs still hit hard as heck and sound awesome. Key is definitley sealing all the little holes though and using enough polyfill.

350trackz --that's straight pimpin. Looks good.

Arvin - how long have you been waiting on Nazar to get your box to you ? I know I could PM him but I thought that I'd hear it from a customer to see what to expect.

I think I'm going with his 2 ten box and amps mounted in the stock enclosure. That will give me some thump but without too much flash. I don;t want my car to become an even bigger target to thieves.

Thanks guys

Shujun

I just ordered it last Friday the 5th. I will receive it next week. I didn't mean to sound like there is a problem with my order with Nazar.

Hey 350Z that is an awesome stealth setup. Did you remove the spare to do that or is there enough room for both the spare and the amps?

Which amps are you running?

Have you replaced the stock speakers ?

Thanx

spare is gone ... just bumped up the insurance $5 every 6 months to cover towing I am running the JL 300/4 for the door and rear speakers and the 500/1 for the subs. I have replaced every audio component in the car. I run the JL 650Csi up front and 650 Cxi in the rear and Alpine 7998 for a head unit. Music is quite crisp and can be very loud if need be.

I did all of this in my garage so if you have questions ask.

Yeah, up your insurance or pay like $50 a year for AAA auto club, they offer roadside assistance...

I still like the warm fuzzy feeling of having that donut thing Nissan calls a spare in my hatch though...however, I love 350trackz's stealth install with the JL amps, superb work.
