What is the point of this cord?
I've been reading through a lot of threads about installing a Navigation and came across the cigarette adapter with power pole ends. I was wondering if this adapter would help in anyway to bring power from the GPS to the car. I want to hardwire it but if this adapter helps I'd probably buy it. Thanks.

looks like a +/- source and like you said you can just tap your existing car port and run it right into the other one (splice)
it will run just like your current car port so only work with ACC/ON position so you dont have to worry about drain, it will be in series though with the other one but you can easy run both your tapped GPS and use the port below the dash at same time

The part you link in your message is useful when “hard-wiring” a portable GPS.
The power adapter on your GPS plugs into a “cigar lighter” power receptacle in the car. It’s wise to keep the GPS’s power adapter and plug this into a receptacle. Most portable GPS’s run on 9v to 12v, and the voltage is set by the adapter (which prevents damage to your GPS).
You need a power receptacle as shown in your link to accomplish the “hard wire” connection.

The cord you linked to is designed specifically to work with a Powerpole. The Powerpoles are really cool, but completely unnecessary for what you want to do.
What GPS do you have? You do not necessarily NEED a receptacle to hardwire the GPS. Let me know what GPS you're using and I can tell you what you need to do to hardwire it.

^^ Using a receptacle when hard-wiring a portable GPS is wise. This effectively protects the GPS.
You are correct You do not need a Powerpole if you maintain the GPS's power plug and fuse.

^^ You have it right. I would purchase the part you ask about, and then plug the Megellan’s power plug into this. It’s important to use the Megellans’s power plug because that part regulates the voltage and prevents damage to your GPS.
