ill answer only on the grounds you are in the armed forces.

MB Quart is good stuff, but IMHO hard dome tweets are harsh and directional in a small car. They also lack the midbass of the other high level brands. Id reccomend Boston Pro 60 se if youre on a budget, about 390 on ebay new... or Focals if you can spend a bit more.. closer to 500 or so on ebay. Ive owned alot of Quarts.. and Boston is a superior component.

No woofer will fit in the same manner as the oem bose.. but there are boxes made that fit that area. SRQ and Wicked CAS.
I was not a fan of mine, went for a spare tire well box.

Take some time to read the forum stickies and "noobs must reads" as well.

welcome.

Default mb quart and jl sub.

Hey,

I actually had that set up with mb quarts in the doors and just a jl 10w3 in the factory bose sub mounting. To be honest the it wasn't any good. I ended up buying the SRQ box with a cut out for the JL 13TW5 and it is a night and day difference. It does hit harder and sound MUCH better. The MB quart's tweeters are pretty harsh sounding and am considering going with the Boston Acoustics mentioned above. If I do change out I'll let you know the difference. Sound is like exhaust though, it's all about you and if you like it or not.

Hi,
Sorry, haven't been on for a little while..Man, good thing I asked. Thanks guys for the helpful info..Yes I'm currently serving in the Marine Corps and here in Fort Worth, TX. So Boston is a way to go then. what is the cost for SRQ? and where can I get 1? I'm so tired of the Bose system for both Car and Home Audio. thanks again guys..

In reality, it's all about how much you want to spend. There's much better stuff than anything mentioned in here, but it all comes down to money. I prefer the high end CDT, Focal and Morel components. My newly purchased 350Z will have Morel in it. The main thing to make sure is that you try to stay away from aluminum dome tweeters if you don't want them harsh. Of course, a budget would help everyone make much better recommendations on equipment, since they sway from the cheap and crappy to the ridiculously expensive (over $2000 for a premium set of components).

Subwoofer choices come down to how much money you want to spend vs. what power you want to run to it. If you're sticking with the factory sub location with one of the enclosures designed to fit in there, you want to make sure you choose a subwoofer that's designed to perform well in the .5 cubic ft of space that those enclosures offer after sub displacement. There's a lot out there superior to JL if you stray away from the box stores, but again, price and recommendations vary depending on the power you're going to run.

I love the Morel, here's the set that I'm installing in mine:

http://www.woofersetc.com/p-4751-ela...nt-system.aspx

They're still en-route to me, so I can't comment on how they sound in the Z, but I've used Morel in multiple installations before and they've never disappointed me so far.

I have a cheaper set of CDTs in my other car, they're quite a bit cheaper ($350ish, I think) and they actually sound pretty good for the money as well.

the best place to sink money into a small cars system ( or any really) is in fantastic signal components like the deck and signal processors... and the front speakers.
Lots of good advice in this thread, nice too see fianlly.

as the car audio advice ive seen ppl dish here on most other threads has been absolutley embarassing at times.
People load up on bass and go half @ss on speaks.. car sounds loud, but meh.

Cars w amazing midrange and smooth highs.. well, you can tell the quality immediately, and it makes your music a true joy to listen to.. MOREL is very high quality home audio gear, now available for the car.. very cool.
Id say Focal and Morel are right up there, Boston is amazing stuff, but just a touch cheaper.
You can get a current model set og Boston Pro 60 Ses on ebay for 380 bucks.. close to 500 and up for Focal and Morel.

OP, not sure if you hav a coupe or not.. if so, i really didnt like the SQR box.. i mounted in passenger side to move it farther way from me, and it just doesnt blend well IMO.

If you can ditch the spare, i got a guy on ebay that makes a full false floor and spare tire well box for like 160 shipped, thats 40 more than the sqr, and it holds 2 10s, 2 12s or in my case, the flat JL 13.
it weights 12 lbs more than the SQR box, thats it. Far better sound.

btw, had no idea the corp had ninjas.

I totally agree with choosing the right processor, especially the headunit. I once (stupidly) went from a nice Eclipse headunit with 8V preouts to a Pioneer DVD setup with 2V preouts and was devastated. Just the sound difference from having the higher voltage preouts was amazing, not to mention that the copper cased Eclipse had probably the best processors ever put into a headunit. I absolutely swear by running high voltage preouts, no less than 4V. This allows you to get the same output but keeping the gains considerably lower on the amps, which leads to lower THD, which is always a good thing.

Unlike common belief, the Gain control is a level matching device, not a volume control..........

And I heard the ninjas were a new trial program instituted by the Marines that wasn't going so well. They have a hard time trying to get the Marines to stay stealthy and not immediately try to jump out and kill everyone in sight, since that's what they're trained to do.............
