Cheap system, nice bass. no sub or amp. is it possible?
I currently have a JVC KW-XR610 4 x 50 Watts USB/CD Receiver on a base model 2007 350z. needless to say my stock speakers are blown out. Im tight on money and was hoping to put together a system that gave me a clean sound plus some bass. I mostly listen to hip-hop and classic rock. I know alot of you will insist that i must have an amp and sub, which i absolutely agree with but at the moment im low on funds and my speakers are completely blown out so im looking for the best bass-for-my-buck and something i can quickly and easily install myself as i have no garage to work in. Down the line i will definitely look into and amp and sub but for the time being i wanna be able to enjoy my music with just 4 6.5 speakers. Help a noob out!
If any of you can give me a good deal on ur used equipment in the LA/Glendale area lemme know
Thank you guys, ive looked everywhere and i dont see anything about a good set up sans amp/sub

I've always liked pioneer for decent cheap equipment (oxymoron), If you go with a component setup with separate tweeters you will get a lot more bass I think. Interested to see if anyone else has any input.
the issue is that off of the deck alone, you wont get a ton of sound, but even moreso if the deck doesnt ahve crossovers.. usually when the y DO ahve internal crossover adjustments,, it doesnt affect the speaker outputs, only the RCA outputs to an external amp, so in all likelihood, NO. You cant.
Now there are some exceptions to that rule, but the best idea if youre really tight is to replace the stock speakers w a cheap set of Alpines off Ebay, the SPS series or maybe even SPR up fromt if you can swing it. When you ahve time to upgrade latter on, you can keep the rear speakers the same and just buy better stuff elsewhere.. anything else aint gna make you happy, i can promise you that.
Take my advice. Start small.

Thanks, I was actually considering the Alpine Type-R SPR-17S.
I bought the car used and upon further inspection realized their is a Quantum Audio Q220.2 220w x 2 tucked under the passenger seat. IF its actually in working condition, do you guys think this would be any help? maybe just using it for the front speaker?

I MEAN MAYBE SO, SURE, BUT THATS A PRETTY CRAPPY AMP.. IT SELLS FOR 179 BUCKS ETC.
iF IT WAS ALREADY WIRED UP, SURE, BUT ID NOT SPEND A DIME PAYING TO INSTALL IT AGAIN.

Yeah i figured it was a cheap amp, i couldnt find a single review anywhere. Not even the Quantum Audio site had any info on that model. It looks like all the wires are still attached but im not sure how far back the leads go as i didnt install my current head unit and im assuming the previous owner left it disconnected when putting back the factory head unit. In any case, Thanks again for your advice. Sounds like ill be going with the Alpine Type-R SPR-17S
What is your budget exactly? IMO, a sub isn't necessary for good bass, but deading your doors would help a great deal. Ten square feet of fatmat is 25 bucks on ebay. Its easy enough for anybody to do. Also, if you are capable of doing it yourself, I would hook the amp up to your front speakers and just run the rears of the HU. I agree with bm that it probably isn't worth having hooked up by a pro, but hey, it didn't cost 180 dollars, it was free
You will only get half of the rated power cleanly, but it will be better than the 20 watts rms your HU puts out. There are other options for budget components as well. Cadence CWM-6KIT components are 59 shipped on ebay. I have Phoenix Gold RSD6CS for my rears and they don't sound bad. They are 99 shipped on ebay. Thats my .02.

I think Autozone has some single voice coil 6.5's for like $10 each. I haven't looked for subs, but I know you can get one of those old home speakers 8 ohm stuff. The speakers usually have 50W RMS so you can use a 10 or 12 from one of those and get some bass.
I know this because I did this about 12 years ago in my first car. I got a home speaker from an old standup house speaker and put it in the trunk of my car. I was able to blow it up by adding an amp, but it wasn't too bad without it. You can probably find those speakers at a yard sale on the weekend for real cheap.
You won't get 100+ db, but maybe in the 85db range, not quite enough to cause hearing damage. Don't be afraid of using 8 ohm speakers, it usually won't bother the head unit, but the unit will put out less power because of the impedence. If your real concerned about 8 Ohm impedence, just joint two 8 ohm positives/negitives together.
Good luck yard sailing, its your best option for cheap speakers.

The bass will be more dependant on install. Properly deaden/seal doors or look into some nice kick pods. Thoe type r components amplified in a proper install like mentioned above should do the trick.
