Infuriating stock clarion replacement problem - 2003
Hey guys, Ive spent the last 3 weeks battling with the installation of a new headunit to replace my stock clarion in my 2003 350z. This is a precursor to the installation of a new amp and subs, which I assumed would be the hard part of the process. Anyways.
The problem: Only getting very faint audio from the rear speakers, slightly increases with distortion if I turn the new HU all the way up.
I believe the original system was not BOSE, as the stock headunit is the clarion, but the previous owner had upgraded it and looks like they put the stock clarion back in. Regardless, I originally tried using the pac-roem-nis2 adapter with the new HU ( a pioneer DEH-P7400HD ), and the problem was the same. I double checked to make sure the black wires were grounded, and I tried changing the output levels on the pac device. I also made sure the blue/white amp switch from the HU was wired, and recently tried wiring the BW and B cables to together as well. Tested using the antenna and also an ipod, so i dont think its an antenna issue.
Any ideas what else I can try? I am in western massachusetts right now and the audio shops around here dont give me a lot of faith. I had some guy from craigslist come over and try to fix it and he failed as well. If anyone in the western mass / northern ct area wants to take a crack at it i will gladly compensate, really at my wits end here. Was really excited to get this 1800watt bass system installed, and instead have ended up with no music at all for a month =(

That is exactly what I am doing. I realize the 70-7550 would work with the HU's non-rca speaker outputs, but why wouldnt the rca cables on the 7551 work as well? Im not sure exactly what you mean by adding rca out to a factory HU, but this page seems to explain the 7551 as I am using it:
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...a-70-7551.html
4 RCA Plugs plug into the aftermarket radio's pre-amp outputs
Anyways, does the non-bose stereo also use an amp? I am thinking maybe the HU is still not turning the amp on, even tho i have tried wiring it every way possible it seems :/

Forget about the harness. The fix is easy here. You don’t know what you have in the car, but you do know what you are installing.
Why not pull all the existing stuff and replace with new wiring? That is the only logical approach since you have already decided to replace any problematic Bose stuff.
I always do it this way, and I always get great sound with no aggravation.

Everything was working fine I just wanted to add a subwoofer. This whole experience has been miserable :/ Im just going to take it to a shop, should have done that in the first place I guess.

Since you brought this up , I would say don't go to the shop yet. From my understanding you are not exactly sure if you have the Bose Amp or not. Why not find out?. It is in the area where your spare tire is, under the protective black foam on the driver side. Also is your antenna getting power?. Did you connect the blue/white wire to the antenna power wire? All said and done, consider what Spike100 said. If you don't have the money, wait till you are ready. Don't go and give the little you have to the shop guy because either way you end up with sub-standard sound.
