Alarm Help!! please
Okay, I bought my car with an aftermarket viper alarm stacked ontop with the factory allarm. Then one beautiful day in Vons parking lot my remote stopped working. New batt still wouldnt unlock. So I opened my door to a screaming bird under my hood and lights ablaze. So I pulled the fuse to the viper cluster****. The car would still start/move with the viper alarm going off like mad which tells me it wasn't installed properly (go figure). NOW MY QUESTION lol, if I buy a FACTORY keyfob can I use just the factory alarm /keyfob with the old viper wiring in place? And sorry for any/all grammatically incorrect words. Its a ***** typing this on my phone
- Did your Viper alarm come with two remotes? Also, you can put your car into valet mode if the alarm goes off like crazy. Put the key into the ignition, turn into accessory mode, then quickly press and hold down the override button (found on the transmitter mounted on the window) until the siren chirps twice.
I would assume that if you kept the alarm in valet mode, you could just use your old keyfob. I'll test my old keyfob out tomorrow and let you know.

Thank you so much, I only have 1 remote. Only other button i found was a small button jammed under the dash. I pulled the fuse to the viper system yet my lil red light still blinks for the factory. Its the most half assed instal I've ever dealt with, wires comming apart, cheap connectors , ect I've never been a fan of aftermarket alarm systems

Check if there's something like that behind the rear view mirror, should be small with two antennas coming out the sides (depends on your model too). I haven't had any issues with my Viper alarm, except for the battery dying out in the remote every couple of months but that's expected.
Edit: With my Viper, I can still unlock/lock the car using the OEM key fob. Can't guarantee it would work with your situation, I'm assuming it might be installation-dependent and whether the installer allowed for that.

Thanks for the help. My alarm is 6 years old. I belive it was the base/cheapest alarm viper made. I didn't see a lil thing behind my rearview. I'm going to a ttempt to use my stock alarm. I've just never been a fan of aftermarket alarms
The newer Viper alarms are awesome (ones that come with two keys), I have no complaints about mine. I'm not sure about the older models, but if you ever think of getting that one replaced, definitely look at the newer ones. A refurbished unit installed would only cost roughly $400 - and these are the ones with 1 mile distance (high estimate) along with remote start.
As long as your Viper is disabled (i.e. fuse pulled) I don't think you'll have an issue with using your stock alarm, unless for some reason it disables startup.

Generally, the older the Viper alarm the better it was. The stuff they sell now is junk compared to the old stuff (like the 550ESP - now that was an alarm). They keyfobs are junk and will require constant replacing. I replace my one way Viper remote about once year due to the batter door breaking off. They are not designed for every day use like they were.
That being said, there should be no issues with the Viper alarm IF it was installed properly. All wires should be soldered, taped, and routed with OEM wires back to the brain (which should be hidden).
On the Z there is never integration with the factory remote. The OEM remote can't control the Viper. If you can get the Viper disarmed the OEM remotes will not rearm it.
Generally, when disabling an aftermarket alarm the only thing you really have to be concerned about is the starter kill. If you car started with the alarm going off that is an indication that the starter kill was not hooked up. Therefore, you should be able to simply unplug the harness from the brain if you decide you no longer want to use the alarm system. If the wires were poorly connected it would probably be a good idea to remote all the wiring and to reinsulate the OEM wires with a high quality electrical tape - like Scotch 33+.
