I dont have my Z anymore (and have posted here in a few years) but remember all the good info here due to volume of traffic. Anyway, was hoping if you could help me out with some suggestions.
I have a 2007 tundra double cab. stock speakers include 6.5" (or 6x9) in front doors, 5.25 in rear doors, and 3.5/tweet in the dash.
i absolutely cant do a sub box so that is out of the question. i have a kenwood deck pushing 22 watts rms per channel. will do lots of sound deadening on the doors.
my options for bass include:
1. shallow mount 8s in the rear doors (lose all mid/highs/listneing enjoyment for passnegers - yes they can fit with minimal modding)
2. shallow mount 8s in the front doors (can fit with minimal modding), replace 3.5s in the dash for mids/highs and addtweeters in the doors, leave stock full rangers in the rear doors for passengers running off deck
3. just do 6.5s or 6x9s in the door and amp them
i dont want to lose all sound stage in the rear, so id like to avoid option 1
will i get that much better low/mid bass from the 8s than a pair of 6.5s or 6x9s (both amped)
if i do go with 8s in the front door, i will definitely need to change out the 3.5s in the dash...would this sound decent enough if the 8s are crossed over to only play lower stuff?
thanks and sorry for the longass post

+1^.
try to fit an 8 I've seen guys running 2 10"s under back seat or in any case you don't want to go that way I would use 6x9 all 4 door but split them rear/front add some baffles on all 4 (better bass mid sound at high volume) 2/4 channel amp (front/rear) and an equalizer so you can have better control of bass/mid/high. I had similar set up on a Lincoln LS and it was more than enough.

Yeah they make many boxes that will work under the seat. I just hate to lose the storage room now. Plus I'm 31 with a 2 year old and promised my wife my sub days were finally over...so another reason for the secret, ahem, I mean stock look
I doubt you will get decent bass from any speaker without adding an external amp. You won’t get a good result using your deck and mounting 8” speakers in the front doors.
I would consider component speakers; 6.5” mid/low range in the door and replace your current 3.5” speakers with the component’s tweeters. Spend some $$’s on the component speakers so that you get decent bass. Add a 4 channel external amp that you use to drive your current rear speakers and the new front component speakers.

I would encourage you not to put subs in your doors. Those Trucks are rattle-traps even if you run a substantial amount of sound deadening in the doors. I did a neat little down-firing enclosure in a 2012 Tacoma between the back seats. I put a Clarion flat sub in there and it sounded amazing.

The best 6X9 I have heard (if you must) is the Hybrid Audio convertible set (imagine series). The crossover is 'meh' but you could run it active and it'll blow yer mind. Otherwise like Spike said, a good set of 6.5 " components will sound nice especially when amp'd. Then a single 8" or 10" somewhere in the back and you're golden!
