What are some good 7" navigation systems for a cubby?
I'm still looking to install a GPS to my 2003 350z's cubby. I'm looking for a good 7" touch screen that is all touch screen and has no buttons. I would prefer it be capable of hooking up a backup camera. I would also like the option to be able to hook up my smart phone to it and play movies on its screen. I saw the magellan roadmate 1700 and it looks like its okay but im not a huge fan of the animation detail. I'm looking for something that doesn't already look outdated and is under 400$
Also I saw the set up some people have in this thread and how do the people turn on the roadmaster 1700 when its inside of the dash? Isnt there an on/off switch on the side of the device? Also are you able to hook up the audio to your speakers so that when it speaks to you it will interupt the music or something? https://my350z.com/forum/audio-build...hscreen-3.html

That most do (including me) with the magellan 1700 is hardwire it to your cars headunit power, also the 1700 doesn't have an audio out output so again what I did was hardwire the 1700's speaker to my headunit. If for some reason you don't want to go the magellan way other opinion is to mount a 7in screen in the cubby and getting a standalone GPS box from alpine or kenwood but there a bit pricey ($300-$400)
You have a 2003 which is the most favorable model-year when mounting a 7” screen in the upper/forward cubby.
About 7” screens in the 350z…
1) Kenwood made a 7” LCD touch screen that connects to a Garmin GPS “blackbox.” It works great in the 350z, but is now out of production.
2) Another option is a Garmin “blackbox” connecting to a high quality 7” LCD screen. This isn’t touch screen; it’s operated using a handheld remote. I use this setup and it is great.
The Garmin GPS “blackbox” does support outputting audio to your CES. The feature allows you to send the Garmin’s voice guidance to your car’s speakers. That is the best way to do voice guidance from a GPS.

I have the Magellan 1700, and it looks OEM and the backup cam works great(off eBay). What I don't like is how slow the search function is...very laggy compared to any other GPS unit I've used. But, I got it for $40 locally lol so can't complain.
^^
1) Is device slow when searching for an address or specific location?
Or..
2) Is it slow during normal operation (while providing guidance)?

During Normal operation and guidance it is fine.
It is super slow when searching points of interests, and even when typing in cities or street names. Each letter typed will cause a pause/lag while it searches it's database. I once tried to look up a gas station and it lagged for several minutes.
I just use my phone for that now...I use this only once I've gotten an address.

I would have gone with an android tablet but the backup camera was a main criteria for me. I did not want to use a USB camera as people have suggested because I wanted an almost oem look that the ebay camera for nissan vehicles gives me.

Well I do for general searches, but if I have a specific address, the gps is better since I don't have to pick up my phone and risk being pulled over or get into an accident, no matter how unlikely I feel that would happen. I have the 06+ navi console so it gives me the perfect view of the screen whole driving
I havent found an on-board GPS that is better than my phone. Monthly updates, 3D maps, satellite maps, etc etc.
I have a navi stand that clips to my AC vents, it works flawless.
The OE GPS is used from time to time if I have no service, or if im going somewhere really far. I could care less for it though.

^^ I agree with 12iceman. I prefer the look and convenience of a built-in device, and I prefer the larger 7” screen when navigating.
My Garmin “blackbox” is fast when searching locations and addresses, and when navigating. I suppose performance is related to the number of satellites the GPS device “sees” at one time. I have my antenna mounted on the crossbar under the rear window glass. It seems to work well in this position.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I did end up going with the Garmin dezl760lmt and I bought a wireless back up camera separately. I did this because I was able to find a cheap refurbished one and even though its meant for truckers there is an automobile mode. I'll post pics when its all said and done.
The magellan 1700 roadmate was my second choice but its kind of outdated now and I want something with a better animation and features. And I could use my phone but I want a big screen, something I can screen movies on, and the back up cam of course.

Nice, post some pics when its done OP.
I use my DDX470 for my back up camera and movies. I drove up to SF a few weekends ago (7 hr drive) and my GF was watching a few movies. It surprisingly made the trip go by a lot faster haha.
