Sub enclosure and JL??
So Im officially down to listening to music with only my rear speakers and occasionally my front passenger one will kick in.. I've been looking to do a sound system for a while but im waiting on my clutch to blow so I could swap Clutch and old CD003 for the cd009, but thats a different story...
As i mentioned I've been looking for subs and amps for a while now. Finally found a couple PPl selling stuff that catches my eye.
I found one JL audio 10w6v2 in the 400$ ballpark
but I also came across a 10w7 in the 300$ ballpark
Im still debating if i should get a 1000/1 Watt amp for 300$
or consider the other two 500/1v2 for 280$ or the 700/1 Watt for 250$
(I know its all JL/ I just prefer it after my previous setup in a civic)
______
I know thats a lot of options and there can be many combinations between them. But I figure if i do the W6 ill go with the 500 or 700 watt amp since it wouldn't need much more than that.
If I go with the W7 Id favor for the 1000/1 Watt amp but willing to settle with the 700/1 watt amp...
________
Now when I looked around my car I realized the owner before me dynamated not only the front speaker section but also the Rear speakers along with the glove box behind the driver seat and the sub area behind the driver seat.
So would it be safe to just fit a 10 inch JL back there??
_____
Also 1 more thing to consider I do not have a bose system and my rear speakers are some junky pioneers that came with it when I bought the car.. Besides the deck I'm using is a Pioneer Appradio SPH-da02.
What would you guys choose or consider in my shoes??
Oh and I forgot to mention I also intend on swapping the stock front speakers just not 100% sure if ill go with component with new tweeters/ 2-way / 3-way speakers just yet..
But I just wanted to clarify I do not plan on just running a sub alone with back speakers. Cant imagine how that would sound..

If you're thinking about mounting a sub in the stock Bose metal panel, that's a very bad idea - many threads here will tell you how bad it will sound. Free-air subs just don't do it. If, however, you're looking to mount the sub in a properly-built and -sized box in that enclosure, then you can get some very good sound.
Here's a pic of what I did, but it's hardly the only possible solution:

The front and rear speakers are Boston components, there are 2 JL amps (1 hidden below the glove box, and a Kenwood front end. I wanted a stealth system, so I even de-badged the Bose grille, and the system also doesn't take up any additional interior space, which was another requirement I had. You may have other needs, but for me, this is a great-sounding, perfect system for my Z. Total cost was ~$1700, and I did all the labor. Your best bet is to read all the audio threads you can find, and see what's possible before you make any firm plans or spend any $.

I have 2 W6's and I feed them about 1000 watts from an RF T1500 and they pound....hard,very hard!!
400.00 for a W6 is very high. I bought mine used but in excellent condition for 250.00 for both.

But after looking more in depth I found this set up

I liked how crskillz had his but I was blown away how NismoZZ had his set up.
IDK what they meant by a custom FIberglass box till I saw how u completely removed the Bose metal panel.
Im guessing they got it to an exact fit in that space.???? Main reason Im trying to fit it back there is also cause I dont want to lose any cargo room and dont want to remove my spare for a stealth box..
I like how you have ur set up, I was origianlly planning on using that bose metal panel since I read somewhere it could get the job done with enough modifications. (using paper and wedging it between the sub and panel to prevent unnecessary vibrations.)

Haven't heard one, though, and my concern is how it sounds without a grille open to the car's interior. This may be another choice, although the internal volume is a bit small for most 10" subs:

If NismoZZ doesn't have that sub in a sealed enclosure, and it appears he doesn't, that's not a setup I'd be interested in. You can stuff that compartment with as much fiberfill as you like, but it's still a free-air setup, which still means sloppy bass. Everyone's got a different idea of what "good" sound is, but that setup wouldn't work for me. If you don't want to build your own box, this may be a viable alternative:

But my question is, why would the previous owner have this entire compartment behind my seat be completely dynamatted? I looked in the glove box and that areas completely dynamatted too.. along with front speakers, the rear speaker area and majority of the trunk. Also wouldn't all the dynamat in the compartment act like a box, since air cant flows restricted?
General question: would it be possible to just take some wood dynamate it cut a hole for the sub and Drill holes to mount it on-top of the Bose metal panel?
^^^sorry I sound like a cheapskate but I dont have a giant budget working with approximately 700 or so... But I'm determined to find JL's either a W6 or W7 as a sub with a discontinued JL Slash series amp to power it
(I always wanted that set up and last time I had to settle for two 12inch W3's with 1000watt kenwood amp and 5 farad capacitor in a sealed box-- I was satisfied and it ran me about 400 all together)

It's impossible to get that area airtight using dynamat or any similar product. For optimum operation, a speaker driver needs to be in a sealed enclosure of a volume specified by that speaker's design. You can look at the spec's of a speaker and see what box volume the manufacturer recommends. What else can I tell you? If you make compromises in your design, the sound will be compromised, too, which may be fine for you. I can't say what you'll be happy with. Some guys like a pair of 15's in a ported box taking up the entire trunk space, but that's what they like. I wasn't looking for a system to blow my windows out, but something with good definition and reasonable volume levels. Sound quality was more important than sound quantity.
^^^This. Even if you sealed the stock Bose sub area it's so big any sub you mount back there will effectively operate as a free air system. Make an enclosure or buy one, but don't waste your time or money on just screwing a sub into that panel. Sounds like your previous car had a system with more thump than you'll get even with a properly designed enclosure in the stock location, so maybe you'll want a big box on the hatch area, if that's what you like.
okay guys so I looked around for what the best bang for my buck will be, Instead of buy 1 sub. I found a guy thats selling two 10w6s with an amp for ~$400 or so..
I figure if 1 Isnt going to give me the results Id like maybe 2 both behind the seats can get the job done...
I know this might sound irrational. but I saw this picture of a Z that did it and I wouldnt mind something like this even if its a wooden box than a fiberglass one

would this give me quality "thump" or is it a money dump?
