Subwoofer amp w/ non-bose stock stereo?
Hey guys,
I'm gonna be installing a new pioneer head unit in a couple days (once it comes in the mail). I currently have the stock non-bose stereo and the previous owner has a sub & amp installed. My understanding is that the stock stereo does not include RCA outs so I'm curious what I'll find when I open up the dash.
Do people typically just tap into the rear speaker outs or something? My rear speakers do still function but the sub seems to be tied to the rear speakers when I play with the fader.
My new HU has RCA preamp outputs. Just wondering what kind've rewiring to expect when I open everything up.
TIA!

I literally just went through this like a month ago and yes the subwoofer and amp simply tapped into the preexisting speaker wire. I simply laid out all new speaker wire to redo everything. You could keep the older connections, but wouldn't really be able to adjust everything how you normally can.
The 350Z’s OEM non-Bose audio system is an inexpensive Clarion setup (H/U, front component speakers and rear coaxial speakers). My first upgrades were speakers and an external amp. I simply tapped into the existing speaker wires from the OEM Clarion H/U. That wasn’t an elegant solution, but it worked OK.
I replaced the H/U soon after this, and I did run some new wring because I wasn’t certain about the OEM wiring.

That is pretty much what I did when replacing the H/U and all speakers, and adding an external amplifier. I ran some new wires only because some of the OEM stuff was so minimal, but I probably could have left the original wiring in place and just connected to this by adding RCA adapters.
Thanks guys.
Ya when I opened things up I found the RCA's connected to an adapter and then tapped into one of the rear speaker wires. The shitty thing was they left no slack in the RCA cables so I had to pull the center arm rest and stuff and get more slack just so they could reach the new HU. >.<
