Any single dins that blend well with the Z interior?
So I've been in the market for a new headunit that at least has USB and bluetooth capabilities. However, the issue that arises is that I have navigation in my Z, and therefore I have no idea where I would put my phone with a double din. From a practical standpoint, the single DIN is a much better option as it would provide with the empty din slot to put my phone, plus they're generally cheaper. However, I'm also pretty picky about interior appearance and it seems like the majority of single dins look out of place in the Z. This leaves me with two options:
1. Find a single din that matches the interior nicely or
2. Cough up the cash and get a nice touchscreen double din, possibly wiring a usb cord to the center console where the cupholder tray goes.
I would honestly much prefer option 1 as it would be easier on my wallet and a little bit more usable with the extra din slot. I'm a pretty simple guy and I don't need a touchscreen or anything fancy, just something with bluetooth and USB to work with my phone. The only reason I would really go with a double din is purely aesthetic purposes. Any suggestions? Thanks in advanced!

It does make a difference, as some headunits are specifically optimized with features to control an iPhone. If you have one of those, like the Kenwood DDX470 I have, you really never need to touch the phone, and you can run the cable back thru the handbrake area. The phone can be tucked neatly in between the handbrake and the console.

This is a great headunit, and it can be found for <$300. Quite a few guys here have one, and there's an active thread about it:

These are not good photos (excessive flash), but it gives you an idea of what a single din looks like in the 350z.

I like having the extra shelf; I use this for my phone and a remote. The photos are immediately following installation. Notice the small opening at the rear. These will accommodate a USB or other connection(s). Placing a custom fitting “rubber lining” on the shelf bottom is a good addition; it prevents your phone from sliding around on the shelf.

Just get double din. I have factory navi, but I will say it's not as easy to use/enter addresses with that ****. It's a nice unit as far as appearance, but it also doesn't work unless fully stopped (unless you mod the navi). Aftermarket navi will be more useful feature-wise.
As for your phone, put your phone in the cup holder or the armrest storage/cup holders. The Z got 4-6 cupholders anyways. Make use of it

My setup looks like Spike100's except I painted the black frames of radio mount/trim silver to match the surrounds on the A/C controls. I use a ProClip to hold my iPhone 5S. I've got some photos at home I can upload later if your interested.

I don't really want to resort to putting my phone in the cupholder, however. I feel like it would fall out of the in-dash one pretty easily and it wouldn't look so great.

You understand. The cup-holder is too far back and inconvenient for easy access.
Actually the navigation I have now is an aftermarket nav in the factory navi area. Maybe I should have mentioned that, but didn't really think it mattered. I agree though, my friend's '04 has the factory nav and that thing is such a pain to use.

Pioneer HU I installed recently. The nice thing about pioneer units is you can completely customize the color of the lighting (screen and buttons independently). You could match the amber lighting of the rest of the Z (and the stock stereo) or go with whatever color suits your fancy.
Here is my setup. This is my 4th double din indash
Boss
Microsd card reader
USB port
Gps/ dvd
Bluetooth for music instead of using wires to connect.
bunch of other stuff too.

Single DINs do not blend well with 350Z interior for some reason. I hate the look and how cheap it makes it look.
Just go double, you wont regret it. $350 for a DDX470 with everything from crutchfield is NOT bad at all. I loveeeee mine, its probably my favorite part on my car at the moment.

I like how it looks with the OE navigation as well.

I think how it looks is subjective and secondary to how it sounds
and a single din can be installed to look as good or better
key being install dependent
