Just talked to my friend at Audio Connection in Md and he was installing the Nav unit just as I was asking about it. Retails for about 2300.00 (my price) Eclipse has told dealers to sell it for around 2700.00 maybe less. Apperantly from the web site and my inquiry, Their are three units. One is DVD video-Nav w/ MP3 etc. , DVD-video w/ hard disc drive and Memory stick, and Dvd video. I had asked if Eclipse was also goint to have a seperate dvd nav but he said not yet. I imagine probaly by the Fall one will be out. I would like to get the DVD/ HDD one and add nav--no need for a cd changer then!

The Eclipse unit is is using ATRAC3 to encode the songs and you can only (rip) record them in real time as you play them with the head unit. It would take quite a while to get a 3000 song music library up and running that way.

According to Eclipse, the minute minute you insert your cd, the hard drive codes the disc and the whole cd can be recorded in 3 minutes!

Oh.....that's better!! Any idea if the ATTRAC3 compression is better or worse than MP3? I got a price of $2600 installed.

I just spoke with a technical advisor for the AVX/AVN systems at Eclipse. She told me that you could only record CD's to the hard drive in REAL TIME. Since that seems to be the case, I'll go with the Kenwood system.

Is there a write-up on how to accomplish ths?

I just bought the last Kenwood 7015 Double din from local dealer here in LA. It was almost closing so i'll have it installed 1st thing tomorrow morning. $1500 installed.

In the meantime, I want to hook up Sirius. Can someone give me an idea of what i should expect to pay for the tuner/antenna plus install? I've paid for the kenwood unit but told them i would think about sirius overnight.

Kenwood is having a deal where if you buy a receiver and a sirius antenna. They will give you a tuner KTC-SR902 for free at the time of your purchase. Since you are buying the ddx7015, you should definitely take advantage of this. You need to have 1 year commitment with sirius though. Ask your dealer about this offer.

I know Crutchfield offers the free sirius tuner if you buy antenna and kenwood receiver. When looking at Kenwood site, they also mention this promotion. However after you click on the "promotions" page, it states that offer expires 12/03.
Is there a new promotion out?

Thanks for all the help about sirius. I called kenwood and they confirmed that the promotion for free sirius tuner expires next month. However, the place that installed my system is quoting a $350 for tuner/antenna/install. Figure $150 for the free tuner and that still leaves $200 which i think is too much. Antenna is about 50 and i've seen antenna/tuner kenwood combos on ebay for practically nothing. Circuit city quoted me 80 to install.

BTW, i'll have pics up tonight.

does anybody know if there is enough room above in the DVD-nav placeholder to install one of these suckers?

since these units don't have detachable face plates, it'll be nice to have it covered with the nav lid.

No it wont. I tried that. Cut thu 2 pieces of plasic and found myself looking at the AC inlet/vent...I didnt want cut thu that, so I gave up. The space is big enough, but its just not deep enough. About 2 inches short.

All you have to do is ground the ebrake wire, don't bother hooking it up, connect it directly to a ground.
