I am currently installing my own car pc in my Z. I've got the Xenarc Touchscreen 7" LCD display installed. I am finishing up the installation/programming of my interface. I am using gentoo.org Linux, using the Gnome desktop, and gpsdrive for navigation. Plus the Linksys WUSB11 for wireless connection when my car is at home.
i know i'll be saving for this. i'd like not to mess with my nav for warranty reasons. this is a nice alternative. although two screens in the dash will be a little bit of bling hahahaha.

Metra sells a double din kit for the Z. about $20.00.
You can have your local circuit city or best buy order one or go on line.
I spoke to Kenwood yesterday, and they say the unit should be available 03/01/2004.
Kenwood tech support told me that it will show 10 discs at a time, with a page up/down feature for up to 256 discs on the optional Kenwood Music Keg. It is a MP3 player based on a laptop drive and the 20GB model will hold about 4500 avg length songs. They are working on setting it up for more discs as we speak. Keg drives come in 10gb, 20gb, 40gb, and 60gb sizes.
While I would like a larger screen, the ability to drop this unit right in and run I think will make it very popular. Rosen makes a similar unit that has some querks, and sells for $2500.00.
At $1400.00 this unit will be nice, but at under $1000.00 in 6 months or so, this will be sweet.
My next major purchase was to be the nismo kit , but this might move up on the list if nismo delays the kits again.

I just found out that the Kenwood unit has a very weak preout voltage. It is only 2 volts. From what I hear, the sound might not be as great.

Anyone know if DVD's will play while driving? This line kinda threw me off:
"plays DVDs (stationary use only), CDs, CD-Rs, CD-RWs, and MP3 discs"
Stationary use would be not moving, correct?

Eclipse is also coming out with a line of double-din headunits similar to that. Saw them in the latest brochure. There are 2 models, the top-end unit having a removeable hard drive. Being Eclipse, I'm guessing it will be much higher quality than the Kenwood unit. Might be worth considering if this is the type of headunit you're after.

Here is their link, although they don't have their new stuff online yet... only in the brochure.
