Didn't you get a manual with yours ? Maybe its HOT ?

Anyways, I think you can hold down the mute button until the Display goes from L to l to A. A is all-bogeyts mode, and will go off for any threat at all. l is logic mode, and uses some internal filtering to determine if its a threat or not, L is the best mode for you, where only threatening x-band bogeys should be displayed.

I do not think there's a way to disable -band detection altogether, and you are probably using it in the best mode for your area, becasue in A mode, it will go off for EVERYTHING ! I use mine in L mode...

You can't turn off the x-band. 7-11 uses x-band for the door opener, if you were to disable x-band you would be open to getting zapped by cops. If you really want to do it then contact Valentine and he might be able to disable it for you.

thnks for the replies. i guess i will learn to live with it. its impossible to tell if its a cop or a store all the frikin time tho fereal man sometimes i get like 5 x bands at once how am i supposed to ID all of them?

O one more question. if it is a xband and it goes on and off really quick is that more likely to be a cop or store?

i only seen cops with lasers and stuff here anyway. thanks.

C'mon folks, the V1 is super configurable. Of course you can disable X-band... or any other band! You can even *enable* Ku band. (Even though it's not used here in the US.) You need to check out the "Ask Mike" section on the V1 website. Here is the link to the huge page on all the configurable features of the V1:

For what it's worth, I've had X-band disabled for a couple years now. I don't believe many (if any) police use X-band anymore. In California, for example, I've found the CHP mostly use Ka with a bit of K. Never have I heard of X being used any more for police duties.

But on that note, if anyone has some solid info on which bands are used in which states, that would be fantastic info to share with us here.

I say go for it. It *really* shuts up the detector in town. More and more auto-doors (at supermarkets and such) are starting to use K-band, though. So I still get K-band false alarms, but they are far, far fewer than X-band false alarms.

Nothing other than anecdotal evidence. I've had my X-band disabled for 2.5 years now and haven't had a ticket. I do speed quite a bit, but I guess you could say I do it intelligently and safely which probably helps a lot towards not getting a ticket.

I'd love to see a report of which types of radar are being used in different cities/counties/states. Just don't know where to find something of that sort... if it even exists.

Hey i just read on another forum the following:

"True, I get a lot of false alerts on X (especially around BART stations and tracks), but 2x the X turned out to be a "see your speed" unmanned unit in Lake Tahoe/I80. The cruiser was hidden within sight of the sign, and was pulling people over after they passed the sign. He didn't need the radar, the unmanned unit showed the speed.

In the East Bay area, K is becoming too popular on suburban moto cops (town of 35k has 3 moto cops- your local taxes at work, Poncharelo wanna-be's- argggh)

Ka on some local cruisers, but mostly on CHP on I5, 101, and north Sacramento/Sierra regions.

I thought about disabling X, but worry too much about Mr. Murphy. It would be just my luck to have it off, and get tagged by an X band radar. "

Do the see your speed things really run on X? I thought they were ka or something. I usually slow down when i see those things way up ahead anyway out of habbit.

Interesting. All the speed signs I've encountered have always been K or Ka. I've never run across one that used X. They could certainly exist, I suppose, but I've never seen it.

That's tricky for the cop to be using one of those signs to pull people over. Seems like it could be easy to contest that ticket in court, though. Hmm...
