My son had a 1995 Honda Accord for a brief time and flipped it for a 2005 350Z Enthusiast Roadster. I had bought a Sony DSX-GS900, Infinity REF-6532ex and REF-9632ix, and a Bazooka BTA10250...
The only thing I can really use now are the REF-6532ex and not sure if they will be the best match.
I am not looking to spend a fortune, but I'd like him to have a nice system. He is an iPhone user. I'd like to reuse the factory sub location. We have 100 sq ft of KillMat. I have a 12g Scosche IKA12 install kit. However, I was told it was OFC, but it's really OFC / CCA so I may source better wire.
I also have a Viper 5706V that will be going in.
I am finishing my own Cadillac build (2016 CTS VSport premium), but that build ends next week so I want to help my son get his 350Z sorted out without breaking the bank.
Welcome- I suggest talking with crutchfield.com to get some suggestions for your son's ZR. Personally, they seemed to offer a good selection and pricing when replacing my factory headunit last year.
More interested in what others are using here (I probably will use crutchfield for some or all of it).
Especially for reusing the stock 10" subwoofer location.
I am also not sure if the rear speakers are really needed, in my past coupes I haven't done even rear fill. Just a nice set of components up front and a solid subwoofer or two with a hefty 4 channel amp running in 3 channel mode.
I picked up a 2007 350Z Roadster a few months ago and have slowly been refreshing things.
It has the Bose system and I thought it sounded just fine, particularly with the top down and engine roaring - not an audiophile environment anyway.
I got the Sony XAV-AX5600 through Crutchfield.
It wasn't my first choice, but it was the closest match that was available - that may be a bigger factor than you realize.
I'm happy with my choice.
First head unit I've installed and it wasn't too bad - Crutchfield directions were awesome and they talked me through 2 of my stupid problems.
Only negative is the screen can be hard to see in some direct light situations.
If your son has an iphone and is under 30 - I think you want a head unit with a screen not the old school DSX line.
I have a VERY basic system with about 400 WRMS, I like music but the sound of this car is too good to drown in music IMO. I got Kenwood components up front, Kenwood woofers in the rear location and then a RF 8" powered sub in the factory location, Alpine mini amp in the factory location and a Kenwood HU. Outside of the HU you'd never guess it isn't stock.
I want my son to have a nice nav unit for bang for buck. Then get him some nice components up front in 6.5-6.75 with tweeters that fit behind the stock location. A 10" sub in the stock location and the way to make it good. A nice amp. Amps and speakers are timeless. I am open to eBay and other trade.
Any one know if the Sony XAV-AX7000 can do 100W RMS bridged to just a pair of front components? I want to add a Class D amp and a 10" sub to the rear in the factory enclosure. Also are their front door pods still available to get the woofers facing a bit up? That was a popular mod back in the day when these came out. If that Sony works I can ditch a lot of extra work.
