So...got a new apple play/android auto unit installed and the phone charging is only 1.5A which sucks...it literally drains while in use. Any ideas of a USB splitter i can use to plug into the head unit connection as well as my 3.0A charger connection?

This is an interesting question and got me thinking, but here's a possible solution.
You can get a USB hardwire step down converter which basically converts the 12v+ supply from the Z to a 5v 3.0 amp output. Something like this:
Tap the 12v+ and ground to some source which gets power when the Z is on (or use a fuse-tap from the fuse panel).
Then you can use something like this (a flush mount dual usb extension socket) and connect one of the USB extensions to your head unit and the other to the female end of the step down converter:
As far as mounting locations, you could use the cigarette lighter socket. Or, when I did something similar and flush-mounted a dual aux/USB socket, I put it in the storage cubby between the seats in the center console. That way, it's out of sight when the lid is closed.
Thanks Heel! This sounds like a good option. I actually found one online but it looks like its on some crazy backorder or not being made anymore. I like your idea!
Manufacturers play lots of games with the specs on these. If you buy a 3A setup with two USB jacks, that is only 1.5A per jack. The Anker USB chargers seem to work for me.
