How to program garage door opener with rolling code to Home Link system

How to program garage door opener with rolling code to Home Link system
I decided to make this how-to thread to clarify any problems when programming your Home Link system when your garage door opener has a rolling code system. Many garage door opening systems manufactured after 1996 have "rolling code protection". If your garage door opener fits this criteria, you'll need to follow these steps to programming the Z's Home Link system.
1. If you wish to clear out all previous programmed door opening codes, just press and hold the two outermost keys on your rearview mirror(key 1 & 3). Hold them down for 20secs. The little light will blink slowly to let you know all previous codes have been cleared. (You only do this step if you want to clear all codes. The Home Link system can store 3 codes. There are 3 keys on the mirror. Each key has an icon of a house with a bar under it. The first button has 1 bar, that's key #1. The second key has a house icon with 2 bars under it. Key #3 has three bars...If you already have another code programmed on one of the keys and you don't want to loose this code, skip the 1st step)
2. . Next, you'll have to pre-program your Home Link system as if though you were programming an older version garage door opener(manufactured prior to 1996). Pick the key you want to code to be store on. Press that key and the garage door opener's key at the same time. Hold them down until the light on the mirror starts blinking slowly, then rapidly. This process could take up to 90secs. Once the light starts flashing rapidly, your done with this step. In this picture I've decided to program the code on key #1.

3. Now comes the part where you "train" your Home Link system to use the rolling code.. Make sure your Z is in a position where the rear view mirror is facing the garage door opener motor. In the picture below I already positioned my Z correctly before I started the whole process....You will only have 30 seconds to complete this task. Have a ladder or stool already set up under the garage door opener motor so you can reach it. You'll have to press the "learn" button on the motor. Pretty much all of them look the same. In the picture below, it's the red button. All you have to do is press it. After you press it, run to your car and press the key you just pre-programmed. Hold it down. It'll only take a few seconds. When it was finished programming, the light on the front of my garage door opener motor flashed slowly for a couple of seconds. I figured this was the indication that the process was complete. I let go of key #1 on my mirror. When I pressed it again, the garage door opened and closed. That's it. Pretty simple...Good luck..

I procrastinated programming it for months now. Me and my GF have 3 cars total, but only 2 remotes. I finally got fed up with having to switch the remote from car to car. My Z came with this plastic quick reference card that had the instructions. They were a little confusing. I had to read them over a few times before all the info made sense. This thread simplifies everything..

What about the gate for my neighboorhood...i can't seem to program that thing. I guess it is rolling also b/c it says successful as far as step 2 but it never works.
Do you know if there is a trick to do the rolling openers if you don't have access to the learn button?

Anyone have any ideas short of going to the home owners association and finding out who can open it and hit the learn button?

Sweet! Yep, I'm another one that procrastinated as well. I even programmed my mother's Lexus 330 for her even though she still wants to keep the original door open in her car heh.
