Default Nav Door Question

Hey Everyone,

Quick question on the Nav Door in the non-nav models. Is some photos i see it looks as though the Nav Door still slides back into the console when the door is opened (was a 2003 item). In my new 2004 Z it just opens up and does not retract at all into the dash.

Anyone done anything with this to make it retract into the dash or know of a aftermarket replacement for the nav console unit to get the motorized retractbale cover?

I have done some searches and so far have come up empty finding anything on this.

thanks in advance.

Jesse

The retractable ones are on 03' Z's . . . the 04 doesn't go back into the car. You can get a new one from an 03 at the dealer and put it in your car if it bothers you.

So this is just a part i can call up a dealership and have them order or purchase if it is in stock? Did all of the 03's have the motorized door or did the Non-Nav's have the push button retractable without the motor?

The 03s have the retratable door, but there isn't a motor. It uses some spring mechanism and gears to go back and you have to manually pull it forward to close it. You can buy it from the dealer for about $100, but members here have said the locking position of the door is different from the 03s so the the door wouldn't lock in place.

I don't think you can buy just the door, the box and door must be purchased together to make it work. Here's a thread of 04 guys buying the 03 unit and talking about how it works. Read the very first (zpylot) and last post (leemik) on page 8: https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....0&pagenumber=8

Someone has done that previously and I remember he had to remove a "gear" or something in order for the lid to open and close manually. There is supposedly an amp module for the motorized lid but I am not sure if anyone has gotten that to work.

Do you have anymore information on this. From talking to parts i was under the impression that i will be able to remove the current console replace it with this one and hook power to it and i would be in business with the Automatic retracting of the door.

Not the case?

Check this thread. In another thread someone posted the amp module part number for the automatic door function to work, but the search engine is not working so I can't find it. Also, it has not been confirmed that even getting that module this will work. https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....threadid=58768

Sorry, forgot to update the other thread... Anyway, I wasn't able to get the cluster lid amp to work with the motorized nav door. The amp had these lines in its connector:

Battery
Acc
Ignition
Ground
Output

I tried connecting +12v to Batt, Acc, and Ignition in different combinations and wasn't able to get anywhere... I traced all three in the wiring diagram and they should all be +12v. The Output is connected to the nav controller presumably to tell it when the door is open or closed. I plan on using the motor controller from the lid amp and building my own circuit. I at least want to get something out of my $180 investment...

BPL: Sorry to hear about the amp not working. Hoepfully you will be able to devise a circuit for it. Did you try to see if the door will work manually at least?

Yes, one of the gears can be removed to make it manually operated. It won't latch open though so it might flip back down under hard accelleration.
