2way/3way? Freq hz? Coaxial?
Okay as some of other posts have started, I'm new to the audio market, but do know that the stock speakers are not what they should be for a 30K car. I see there is quite a variety of setups available. I'm wanting to replace the speakers only right now, but will be replacing the HU sooner than later. So what is the deal with 2 way speakers and 3 way speakers. I see some speakers have seperate tweeters, some have built-ins. Then there is the freq. of all these speakers, some rated from 30-35K some rated from 25-70K...what does this mean? I've also seen some speakers advertised as coaxial? Lastly I've looked at Kenwood 1678IE, Infinity 6002I, and Eclipse 89640 what would be a good choice...I'm basically looking for a good clean sound some bass, but nothing horribly intense. Thanks for your help
A main issue between getting 2-way and 3-way depends on if you plan on installing a sub or not. If you are planning one, get 2-way. If you're not, get 3-way. The difference betwen the two, is that the 3-way has a seperate woofer for lows, while a 2-way is meant for mids and highs. When you have a sub, you want to cut off the bass (lows) to the speakers, so a 3-way is unneeded. Hope that helps!
There is no difference in bass output between 2-way and 3-way speakers. Both are what we call coaxial speakers (the tweeter and the woofer share the same axis, hence, co-axial). The difference is that 3-way speakers have an extra super TWEETER, so you *might* get more high's. But most people cannot hear the difference, since most super tweeters are nothing more than a dime-sized metal cone that is just marketing hype (imho).
Speaker systems with separate tweeter and woofers are what people call components, or simply "separates". They have external crossovers (sends high frequencies to the tweeter, and low frequencies to the woofer), and in general sound better due to better placement of the tweeter, better cone quality, and better isolation of frequencies (cross overs).
I have 6002I's for my rears, and they are nice and crisp. Bass is okay but I have 2 subs. From what I've read in the forums, Infinity speakers do not have as much bass as other brands. But you wont' be disappointed at the high's. I actually have to turn my treble to -3 otherwise my ears will bleed. hehe
Hope this help.
